Having collected these for about 15 years, it's been my experience that it's not all that tough to find them with coupons. If I had to guess the ratio of cards with coupons vs. cards without that I've seen over the years, I'd say 5 to 2. I think they compare with Red Mans in terms of how often you find them with coupons.

Was just looking over your Num Nums and the rest of your website--Beautifully done!

In your "trinket" section I noticed charms 16-17-18 you have attributed to being from Cracker Jacks. I was going to refer you to the thread I posted awhile back about about "50's Charms", but I see you had already seen it and in fact posted your Cleveland players pictures.

2 questions, if I may:

(1) Do you still attribute them as being a Cracker Jack issue?

(2) Do you know for certain that one (#18) is Bob Lemon?

If I am in error w/ my thread on the un-cataloged players (of which Lemon would be one of them) I certainly will make a corrected post.

Thanks, Dave. The Web site is still a work in progress. It seems harder to keep it updated and add to it during the summer. Definitely a winter project.

I'm probably in error on the Cracker Jack reference. I got all of those charms in one big buy of about 200 "trinkets" -- mostly all non-sports but ALL of them definitely Cracker Jack prizes -- back in the late 1970s. I say "all of them definitely Cracker Jack prizes" except maybe for these baseball charms. I was a teenager when I bought them, so I just assumed that because the other 180 or so trinkets were confirmed Cracker Jack prizes that these charms are, too. When I added them to the site, I likely wasn't thinking. I've seen bubble-gum machine cards that have these charms on them, so obviously they were available that way. I'm not convinced that they also didn't come with CJ, but do I have proof? No. I'll need to make that correction on my site.

As for the Lemon identification, I'm just not convinced that charm is Johnny Schmitz.

Your reasoning on the batch of "trinkets" is certainly understandable! I'm sure I would have thought the same way.

As for that charm being Johnny Schmitz instead of Lemon--I put more faith in the pose being a lefty than I do the actual facial details! Either way, they would both be un-cataloged players.

I've still haven't looked at everything on your website, but I love how you've done it!

PS---I've got a couple of Cleveland mementos from a trip I made there in 1957 to see a 4 game series w/ the Yankees when I was 17 and a Jr in high school! Be glad to post them if you like to see them, but would probably have to post them on the Memorabilia Forum as they are not cards!.

I don't think Leon will mind me posting a clarification: After exchanging e-mails with him, and after Leon contacted his friend, it was confirmed that the two complete sets he mentioned contain Bob Kennedy cards that do not have the coupon.

The Kennedy card is far and away the rarest in the set. When found, it almost always is missing the coupon. To think that one collector has two with the coupon ...
