That's an amazing piece of history.
Though, reading through that proposal, I'm not sure it's such an amazing deal for Willie...even at 1955-56 rates. |

Hmmm. According to Baseball Reference, Mays had a salary of $30K in 1956. The $6K in four months would equate to 20% of his baseball salary. Given that players of that era often had second jobs, the offer seems decent. The travel would be a pain, but not a bad deal.
