Default Derek jeter no. 2 autographed ball

Hey guys, so I've only come across one way to find a Derek Jeter inscribed no. 2 autographed baseball. That's through Steiner sports and will only cost $1700. Does anyone on here have any better ideas. I'm willing to pay for a legit autograph, however $1000 for him to write 3 numbers/letters seems unreasonable. I see one on eBay with #2, however the #2 was added by someone else. Please anyone with one please contact me. Thanks, a true yankee collector

Wow, I had no idea that inscription was that rare. Can't really help but wish you the best of luck!

Does Jeet ever stop being a money-grubbing prick, with no feelings at all for his fans?

Nope.

He has to keep up with all the major stars before him.

Good luck finding one at a reasonable price Sladge34.

You can't blame Jeter for the ridiculous price gouging because the problem started years before his career began. He is just another piece and albeit a very popular in demand piece in the large over-priced baseball, and sports, autograph market . Steiner for years beginning with its inception has been a huge contributor and cause of this over priced money sucking and wallet emptying market. All you can do is either deal with Steiner or not, I prefer not to out of principle.

Is $1700 the cost through a private signing? Last I heard signatures were $700 through Steiner. So they want an additional $1,000 to add #2?!?!?

Of course you can blame Jeter. If he had a conscience, he wouldn't have contracted with Steiner, and he could easily provide autographs to his fans at a reasonable price. These are his choices.

That is truly insane! Now in this package for the extra $1000, do you get both items the "#" and the "2" symbols?

Do you get the actually number sign/ hashtag sign "#" in addition to the "2", or is that only available in the Number 2 Premium Package, say for an additional $500?

How do you guys feel about the players who charge for a photo at a card show? I've seen some people charging up to $100 for a photo and that doesn't even include the autograph. When I first started collecting a photo was almost expected.

Check out the price differences in UDA Ted Williams baseballs, for inscribing ".406". They were more expensive when they came out, and still are.

Not sure if this is any different...

There is no debating additional inscriptions add value and desirability, and most would expect to pay a reasonable upcharge for it.

The bone of contention is that Steiner charges an obscene additional $1,000 to add two characters -- "#2"

I don't think there is any way to defend Jeter on this. I wouldn't believe anyone who tried to say Jeter doesn't know what Steiner is charging and he is clearly complicit since he keeps signing deals with Steiner to market his material. It's really gross to make all of your money on the backs of fans and then to continue to rip those fans off when you have no reason to.

Supposedly a portion of his signing fees go to his foundation. But if the goal was to raise as much money as possible for the foundation, why not sign for $250 a pop and you'd sell at least 5 times as much as at $700 a sig? A much higher revenue overall.

The current prices are at a level that indicates to me he doesn't want to sign at all.

Everybody can say what they want about Tim Tebow but I researched it and he charges like 250 each item he signs but 100% percent of fee he donates to his or someone elses good charity causes. I wish more were like that!

That trout signing was also a favor for a friend. The people who trout is signed with will probably never let him do something like that again..

Alsi I believe Jeter doesn't do inscriptions anymore, so maybe thats why its such a high price tag.

This is a screen capture, taken 7/16/14, of Steiner Sports' online offering of a 2014 All-Star Game programs signed by Derek Jeter for $999.99. The cover price for a regular, unsigned program was $15.

Check back in a thousand years and you might be able to flip it for a slim profit. Adjusted for inflation, it'll never happen.

if anyone is nuts enough to pay that kind of money for No.2, or #2 or whatever, what happens if in ten years, he loosens up and starts just signing it? also his Steiner signatures suck, in my opinion. He signs them like someone has a gun at his head.

+1

His Steiner "Send Your Items In" autographs are ugly.

I probably get at least two Steiner emails a day with their "Special Sales" and there is nothing "Special" about them.

Why would you want a Jeter/Mantle ball? They played in different eras, and had nothing to do with one another. Having Jeter sign a Mantle single will certainly devalue the ball.

I could see wanting to assemble a Yankee "greats" type ball with Mantle, DiMaggio, Berra, Jeter etc...(likely you're not gonna try this with anything signed by Gehrig or Ruth so leaving them out) but specifically only Mantle and Jeter seems a bit odd.

However, as a Yankee fan, still cool. If someones favorite all time Yanks are Jeter and Mantle I could see it.

Just a yankee fan, not into making $$$... my pops favorite player was Mantle and my favorite player was jeter... just curious if anyone has seen that combo, as far as devalue, highly doubt it..... this is what's wrong with autograph collecting these days, it's always about $$... sad for true Collectors's who never sell

Thanks for that info Michael, I just learned something. Not really into contemporary collecting of anything, so the dollars charged are surprising to me, especially for non HOF types.

No disrespect intended, simply wanted to know.

Thanks...

Single-signed balls are worth more than multisigned balls. If you want to have Jeter sign it, do what you want with your collection, but know that the presence of signatures in addition to Mantle's detracts from the value of his autograph.

I don't disagree about the fact that money sometimes gets in the way of collecting, but that is the reality. I have many multisigned items and I can confirm the reality of that situation. By and large multisigned items do not sell for nearly the amount you would expect for the groupings together. Of course there are variables. For example having all of the 500 homerun hitters on a ball would increase the total value, but having just Murray and Schmidt on a ball would be less valuable than separate single balls. Having Jeter and Mantle on a ball will likely sell for less than single signed balls of each, but it is your money and collection. If you wish to spend $1000 to add Jeter to a Mantle, go ahead and enjoy.

Edit: Additionally, this situation has been made worse by the prices Steiner charges. I see their stuff on eBay all the time for half of the original retail price. They create and artificially inflate the prices of items and no one ever seems to get their money back when they go to sell.
