Default Is this Ross Youngs?

Posted By: Mark McCleary

Does anyone know whether this strip card is of Ross Youngs, the HOFer?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5145898052&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT

That was certainly the impression I got from the name "Ross" in the title, the reference to him being in the Hall of Fame and the era of the card. However, Ross Youngs was one called "the greatest outfielder I ever saw," not the greatest second baseman plus the last name is spelled differently..I now strongly suspect this is the same Detroit second baseman, Pep Young, found in the M101-4 set:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31718&item=5148112955&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

If he's not a HOFer, I am still obligated to purchase? Thanks.

Despite my earlier mistake today in identifying someone, you are absolutely correct with this one. The strip card you bought is of Ralph "Pep" Young the second baseman for Detroit throughout the teens and early 1920's.

Usually a mutual mistake of fact in an otherwise binding contract will get you out of the deal, legally. However, the seller will not want to let a $25 strip card slip away at the price you bid so expect him to demand his money. If it were me, I would rather potentially eat a negative feedback than eat than flush $100 down the toilet. Let the seller know that you will respond with whatever feedback he deems appropriate and the chances are he will not want to take a negative on this. I do not think that legally you would be bound to this deal, but since I have not taken the Bar Exam yet, do not act my legal advice.

Look at the seller: davidbvintage

Look at his feedback 100%

I seriously doubt that you have anything to worry about regarding this purchase or some type of resolution releasing you from this purchase.

I would be willing to guess that he would reasonable about some type of amicable arrangement that is satisfactory to the both of you. All you have to do is email him and explain the mistake in the item description. This is not Ross Youngs, this is Ralph Pep Young. Ross Youngs is in the HOF and Ralph Pep Young is not.

Also, in the future it may help to verify the accuracy of an item desciption before bidding on it.

Thanks guys - and here I thought I had "one-up'd" Hal by getting a 1921 Ross Youngs, older than his 1922 Exhibit. The seller is very nice and is canceling the transaction. I did do some research prior to bidding and was satisfied the card was of a HOFer when I learned Ross was indeed nicknamed "Pep." But this morning I noticed the M101-4 of another "Pep" (was this like Smith or something?). Anyway, let this post be a plug for David who deserves his 100% positive feedback rating.

A follow up. Ross Youngs did have the nickname 'Pep'. But
'Pep' Young is a different animal altogether. So looking at it David B was correct and not trying to decieve...

According to the BB Encyclopedia:

Lemuel Floyd (Pep) Young - (1933-1945, played mainly 2B)
Royce Middlebrok (Pep) Youngs aka Ross Youngs - (1917-1926, OF)

According to the strip card:

Pep (Ralph Stewart) Young - (1913-1922, mainly 2B)
