Boy lota great stuff here...really like the Ronald Regan photos....I wonder how they'd do in a major auction...Jimmy Muscarella, Can you post detailed photos of your Toots Shore menu? Can anyone give a synopsis of this place. As I understand it was thee Yankees hangout in the 40's but don't know much more...when did it open and close and why? and if anyone has a photo....

Toots Shor's opened in the 1940's, moved to a new location in the early 60's and was closed down in the early 1970s for tax evasion. It was the New York hotspot for baseball players and celebrities. Joe DiMaggio probably more than anyone else made it famous...it was a place where he could go and not get hounded for autographs...DiMaggio didn't have many friends through his life, but Toots was probably as close to him as anyone ever got.

"DiMaggio didn't have many friends through his life, but Toots was probably as close to him as anyone ever got."

And then, as he did to almost everyone who ever considered him a friend, DiMaggio, for some perceived slight, completely cut Toots off.

I sold this last year on ebay.

Also a candy dish is described in this book.
Baseball Treasures, Memorabilia from the National Pastime.
Copyright 1992, Schiffer Publishing.
If you collect this stuff it's a great book.

Hey Carlton, I don't have any larger photos of the Toots Shor menu at the moment...it's about 10x14, so it's not the easiest to do with my current scanner. But, you can find some ok pics by searching google images. Also, a couple other board members have a menu also. I'm sure someone has a nice detailed scan...I would appreciate it also!

Jimmy

Dan,

Never saw that Sullivan pin before. If you would consider trading or selling it, please let me know. Thanks.

Paul
