e90-1 Jackson

Any 1912 Boston Garter

All pictured below... some mine - some images taken from cardpricer.com (I hope Ted doesn't mind the free advertising )....

1) S81 Matty - classic matty pose looks great in silk
2) 1914/15 Cracker Jack Walter Johnson -- too cool
3) Cobb leaning on the bat - still looking for this card - contact me
4) Horizontal Matty
5) Oakes extending past the border... I always thought it was very cool that Oakes glove crosses through the boundaries of the border. Not too many vintage cards (do any others?) allow the image to break through the border.

I don't have scans for these, but maybe someone else can post if they have them:

E90-1 Oakes (or Tim Jordon - any E90-1 of that color theme)

T206 Matty black cap - the blue sky is an unbelieveable color in person

N162 Anson (or almost any N162 for that matter)

E95 Cobb - the deep scarlet background and view angle from below the face.

T212 (year?) Moskiman. I don't know if that's the right name, but it's the 1912 (I think) Obak with the striated lavendar background.

That's the one! I really like the background on that. I like the single-color-different-shades backgrounds on the other 1912's too, but that one is neat.

Thanks for posting the scan

Always liked the background color on this one. This card started my journey toward collecting the T209-1 set.

It's tough to beat the color on some of the 1911 Obaks and Turkey Red Cabinets. Here is a few of my favorites:

The T206 Cobb "Bat Off" is probably my favorite followed closely by T206 Johnson portrait. I have always enjoyed the artwork on the T203's although they do not qualify as player cards.

Joann, I really like the Obaks. Those cards have very nice images.

In regards to a set, I really like the d304s. The images are cool and very unique. I think Barry and Cobb are my 2 favs from that set. Most of the e95s, e96s, e98s, or e93s other than Cobb leaping, just don’t do it for me. It seems like the artist just rushed the job.

ECARD - I'm not sure how anyone can dislike the e90-1 Jackson. What a classic image. The distinct purple background grabs my attention every time I see it, and Jackson leaning on his bat with lipstick all over himself... I saw an image of the Jackson wen I was young and buying '78 Topps cards. Maybe it is because that image was burnt into my brain as a small child of a card I would most likely never obtain, but I think it is a pure classic. A smoke'n card on a bunch of levels. Just bumped it into my top 3 images from top 5.

Did I miss something here? Did the original post state nicest card images other than E94s???? How can you have any discussion of beautiful images without including the violet Cobb, olive Wagner, red Lajoie, gold Evers, green Cicotte and blue Speaker from that set?????

No one said anything about excluding any issue. E94's are very cool (especially Cobb). The colors from that set are outstanding!

T-BOB....them e94's is ugly. They are a newspaper figurine of a player stuck in a boring colored background, but as long as you like them ,it is okay. ANd Kravitz, you start a post and never show us anything ,WHAT"S UP WITH THAT ?!?!

Dan- My post was tongue in cheek I just happen to think the E94s and E97s are woefully underrated aesthetics-wise (is that a word?) Everyone knows how their prices keep going up and up. Also, don't forget what may be the "prettiest" set- the D311s.

Walter Johnson's 1912 Boston Garter tops the list for me.

Walter Johnson's H813-1 Boston Garter
Christy Mathewson's H813-1 Boston Garter
Nap Lajoie's H813-1 Boston Garter
Ed Walsh's E90-1
Ty Cobb's E145-1 (or two) Cracker Jack

Here is a scan of Wagner's Darby box. It isn't black and white, but there isn't too much color to it. The image is cropped to only Wagner's portion of the box. Snodgrass is on the other full panel.

Are the color settings on the image accurate? I have seen green and pink tints on Darby boxes but those colors are very faint. The yellow on the Wagner is very bright to say the least. Great piece though.

Of just the ones I own (minus the Halla). The Leach, Merkle, and Halla would be my top three against any other cards.

I've always tried to convince myself that I'm an East Coast guy, and, therefore am NOT allowed to collect PCL cards. Because those Obaks and D cards are UNREAL in color (I've said it before, and I'll say it again, that "why I oughta' give ya' da back of me hand" / "get outa' here kid, ya bother me" Mohler is a fav).

Another fav of mine is the seldom seen e90 Bell -- Rosey Orange / Orangy Rose -- your pick --
(Also like this card since he is obviously pointing out a stray printing line on top border)

Oh, pink can be very, very cool --

Finally, someone please .......... deep perrywinkle t206 Dougherty portrait

wish you could see the color on this one in person.. slabbed scan does not do it justice.. much cooler than the T206 version in my opinion.

The e271 Darby Wagner (shown a few posts earlier) is actuall accented with a vibrant orange (similar to the orange in the e98 set) not the yellow shown in the scan above.

If you hadn't noticed, the e271 Wagner is actually the same image as used in the e94 set.

An interesting side note is that the e98 Wagner (the throwing pose) is the same image as the e125 Wagner throwing only the e125 is accented with blue colors.
