Default Mantle-Mays

Both came up in 1951. Not counting the two years Mays was in military service (1952 and 1953,) how many years did Mickey have more At Bats than Willie? No fair looking it up.

Because he was injured a lot and drew a lot of walks, I'm going to say one...when Willie had military obligations.

(I didn't look)

Mays was incredibly durable and rarely missed games until after Mickey retired. Mantle drew a lot more walks than Mays did, lowering the margin so that even when they both played similar game counts, I would expect Mantle to have less at-bats.

Without looking it up, I would guess the answer is actually 0 times (exempting 1952 and 1954).

I will guess none. Too many walks for Mantle, although he may have had more plate appearances due to the Yankees being better offensively. Only wild card would be if there was a year Mays had a major injury, but from memory at least until very late he didn't have any. Take notes, Mike Trout.
