Default What's everyone's goals for 2012???

I thought if we start this thread, there might be some others that are able to offer help in completing your projects.

I have four active projects I am working on... Two of them I am almost done with. The three autographs I would like to get in 2012, in no particular order, include:

1) Hal Chase on a nice cut or 3x5

2) Joe Dawson (1924 Indians, 1927-29 Pirates) on a nice cut or 3x5

3) Lou Gehrig on a nice cut or 3x5

Let's hear your goals for 2012.. Happy New Year everyone!

Late Nov/Dec pickups have got me back on track for several of my projects so I believe I will be concentraing on them in the following order:

1. Sam Breadon auto (1934 Cards owner)
2. Del Webb auto (1961 Yankees co-owner)
3. 1969 Cubs autos
4. 1955 Dodgers autos
5. 1941 Game 4 World Series Ticket
6. Kenesaw Mountain Landis auto (to go with 1919 Blacksox)

and hopefully so additional framing.

I think that should keep me busy.

These are not all holy grail pieces for me, but rather pieces I will likely have an opportunity to purchase or trade for.

While there are a ton of Tigers and Cubs pinbacks I want, here are the gems I would love to add in 2012. I can't afford them all, but would stretch myself in an attempt to do so

1) A nice catcher figural piece (trophy, statue, etc).

2) Two pre 1950 Cubs pennants (these are examples of options...I hope)

3) 1945 Tigers W.S. pinback (this image is from Adam's collection aka. Tigerden)

4) 1929 Cubs oval Champs pinback

5) A few more Certified Icecream Cubs pins (have Hornsby)

6) The pitcher from this set

I LOVE that catcher's trophy.. I caught most of my life and missed the position so much when I was moved to the middle infield in HS/College.

My list

1. Beltzer's Nebraska Indians Postcard

2. Green's Nebraska Indians Postcard variation that I am missing

3. Nebraska Indians Cabinet Photo with Tents in background

4. Any Nebraska Indians postcard that I've not seen before (Seem to average one or two per year)

5. 1907 Lincoln Minor League Team postcard with Eddie Cicotte (it would probably look similar to this photo from the Spalding Guide)

Default 2012 goals

My main goal is to add another early bat or two, particularly another spline/applique bat or a mushroom knob bat, and to finish cataloging my bat collection.

Default To scratch one from want list, and use financial restraint

.

Pretty much same goal as most years. To be able to purchase at least one vintage Detroit Tigers ballplayer autograph on my want list. I'd also like to use more financial restraint and not buy so much "crap" (my wife's term) that I really don't need or actively collect (but that I find appealing, otherwise, I wouldn't have purchased it in the first place).

2011 can be summed up as an excellent year for me, thanks primarily to Rhys Yeakley, Jim Stinson, and Memory Lane auctions. Between them, I purchased four autographs on my want list. Now onward, to 2012.

My main problem is I get so wrapped up in my projects that while researching, I find another project to do!

I have a few grails I'd like to add and a few things that are very realistic.

1) I'd like to find a Goldsby Golden Giants cabinet photo from Topeka. Either like this one or the vertical version.

2) I'd like to find a postcard or two from the World Tour 1913 game in Blue Rapids, Kansas.

On the more realistic side.

1) A cabinet photo or two from Kansas

2) A Wichita minor league jersey style that I don't have.

Default AAGPBL jersey....

This year in my collecting adventure, I would love to find....

-a nice, early crescent pad full web glove.
-a figural Spalding pitcher trophy.
-an AAGPBL Kalamazoo Lassies baseball jersey (this would be my holy grail).

Maybe I'll have to talk to Santa next December on the jersey.

Matt

Default My 2012 Wish List

My Wish List for 2012 would include:

1) Adding 3 earlier vintage no-hitter tickets that I don't currently own

2) Find vintage pinbacks and other oddball items of Johnny Vander Meer and Bob Feller

3) Add at least one early no-hit pitcher autograph that I need off my want list

4) Pick up 5- 10 new tickets from the remaining 75 on my Nolan Ryan pitching appearance want list. I'm approx. 90 % of the way to having a ticket to every one of Nolan Ryan's 807 career regular game day appearances. 2011 was a slow year in this category. I only found 5 new Ryan tickets that I have on my want list. I have been working on this collection since 1972!

I want to remain married so I cannot make any purchases until June 30th. Due to this my goals are modest. I think the Mize is very obtainable the Pirate banner and the Feller Dixie Lid premium have always seemed to be elusive. It would be nice to be able to to trade for any of these three items as the wife has a firm grip on my wallet. I just hope that I don't find either for sale in the next 182 days

Completely serious - I will continue to study the Ruth balls being offered in the various auctions, keep reading the discussions by you experts, and I hope to own one next year. I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger yet, but I did come close.

Default Updates to my 2012 wish list

My Wish List for 2012 would include:

1) Adding 3 earlier vintage no-hitter tickets that I don't currently own
Found 2, but the year's not over. I have a line on the third, but don't have it yet

2) Find vintage pinbacks and other oddball items of Johnny Vander Meer and Bob Feller
Found those and many others

3) Add at least one early no-hit pitcher autograph that I need off my want list
Found one- Death Valley Jim Scott

4) Pick up 5- 10 new tickets from the remaining 75 on my Nolan Ryan pitching appearance want list. I'm approx. 90 % of the way to having a ticket to every one of Nolan Ryan's 807 career regular game day appearances. 2011 was a slow year in this category. I only found 5 new Ryan tickets that I have on my want list. I have been working on this collection since 1972!

Found 7 new Ryan tickets off of my want list so far, with the possibility of landing a few more by Jan 1

Mission accomplished!

I went completely off the reservation this year...mainly because right after the thread was started, a whole bunch of signed magazines came up that I wanted which put me in a hole very early. I did add some 69 Cubs signed cards and 55 signed dodgers that were on my list, as well as some tickets which were not on my top 10 list but they were too good to pass up.

I reached all my goals for 2012, picking up two spline bats, a Reach mushroom bat (in rough condition), and cataloging the entire bat collection with pictures, which has now reached 150.

I found a couple of Nebraska Indians postcards that I did not yet have, but still have not found the two that were at the top of my list...I did however find a grail item that I did not believe would ever be available..a photo album that belonged to a Nebraska Indians player with a ton of team related photos in it. So I can't really complain and my list for 2013 looks exactly like the 2012 list.

Still looking for items pertaining to 1909-11 midwest black baseball teams.

I was able to pick up a signed Arthur Hardy letter this year, but that's been it.
