Default PSA/DNA Quick Opinion

I'm looking at an autographed item on eBay, BUT it does not have a COA/LOA with it....I know that is a HUGE risk to take with an autograph without a letter...

I have never used PSA/DNA quick opinion and was considering it...

Has anyone ever used it? Did they find it useful? Was their "opinion" ever over turned when it was submitted?

Thanks so much!
Travis

I have used it a few times and have never had it overturned. Lately, I've gotten a number of "Unable to render a decision" emails (for which they refund your payment).

I used it once on a ball I was selling, and the process was quick and easy. No complaints. The sig was rare (Dr. Mike Marshall) and I knew it was genuine (won it in a Lelands auction), but wanted the added PSA opinion for resale purposes. PSA Quick Opinion agreed with Lelands. You get an email and online confirmation you can print out for your records.

Be cautious. I purchased a very expensive item on eBay ($2k) that came without a COA. The signature looked good to me, but I still wasn't comfortable. So, I used quick opinion. The quick opinion came back likely genuine. I purchased the item and then sent the item into PSA/DNA to be fully authenticated. After 60 days, I still hadn't heard from PSA/DNA so I called to inquire about the timing of the authentication and to also complain about the delay. The next day, I got a call back from PSA/DNA telling me the item failed authentication. (Still don't know if this was retaliation for my complaint). I then contacted the seller to inform that that the item failed authentication and I would be sending the item back to him for a refund. The seller refused to accept the item back, stating it had been over 60 days since I purchased it. I then filed a complaint with Paypal. Paypal (and eBay) sided with the seller, however, because the PSA/DNA quick opinion was likely genuine even though I submitted evidence that it failed full PSA/DNA authentication. So, assuming the item is not authentic, I'm out $2k.

(As a follow-up, I also subm, itted the item to JSA after the PSA/DNA fiasco. The item came back as "unable to render opinion at this time".)

Something else to keep in mind if any of you folks are regular sellers or Power Sellers on Ebay....I listed an autograph, not for sale, just for the Quick Opinion and took it down after I got a "likely not genuine" email.

No big deal, I just wanted to see what they said. But recently when I checked my seller dashboard I noticed that my "Compliance with Ebay Policy" was listed as medium. That surprised me as I don't sell much, but always get high stars and good feedback. I looked a little further into it and found out that when QO said my item was likely not genuine, they reported it to Ebay and Ebay is holding it against me for a year.

If I were a big seller who was getting discounts, that may put a stop to any discounts I may have been getting. So if you are a big seller and want a quick opinion I would suggest using a different Ebay account.
