Default Did I photomatch this properly? Stanton Bat

Hi, I picked up a GU Stanton Marrucci Bat from a Marlins tent sale last week (9/19/12).

The MLB Authentication code comes back to September 4th, 2012 (a game I went to by the way) as a 6th inning single off of Shawn Marcum.

The bat is broken, and the single was a broken bat bloop single to CF.

He used the same bat in the second inning from what I belive I photomatched (Strikeout) and....

a Fourth Inning HR to CF. (I believe I photomatched the knob)

I also have a self photo I took, of the 6th inning at bat. In addition, I have a photo of the swing where it broke too.

Here's what I have, let me know what you guys think. I wish I could buy that Getty Image I posted, which is of the HR swing.

On another note, I've since removed the tape, and it did not leave any residue or remove the pine tar. I found the bat is cracked, but it is in one piece.

Thanks and enjoy the pix!

My Album on photobucket, for higher resolution pix.

It looks like you defininitely got it right to me. The shots of the barrel use are identical as I see it.
Congrats!

Awesome, thanks for the response.

I never tried to photomatch anything before, but it seemed like an easy enough concept.

One of the coolest things is when I bought it I had no idea when it was used, and based on the knob date I figured it was in May.

I love the luck that was involved in the fact that not only did I go to the game it was used, but I was taking a picture of the bat as it was breaking at the right time, and managed to blindly buy it almost 3 weeks later.

When the single happened I thought the bat broke, the sound of the ball hitting the bat didn't sound right to me. But I never looked at the photo until after I bought the bat.

Thanks for your input!

I'm just going to be honest here, no disrespect intended, but I don't think you found the bat in your photos.

I also don't think that the one that he's holding in that batting practice photo is the same one in the game photo right below it. The wear pattern on the knob in batting practice is pretty heavy above and below the "27", while in the game photo, it is heavy below the "27" but not so much above. The bat you got looks more like the game photo than the BP photo, based solely on the knob.

Also, your mark labeled "1c" doesn't look similar to me...the lower white mark looks more pronounced on your bat than the one in the pic.

Finally, the tape job on the handle. That's probably the least convincing thing, but is that normal to add tape like that? Whatever surface that he had for grip in the game photos clearly isn't tape like that.

If you read his thread he mentioned he had removed the tape from the bat. The tape was put on after it was cracked to hold it together.

sorry i missed that, but i think its clear that i read his thread.

i'm happy to be wrong on this, in fact, i'd prefer it...but based on the pics i saw, i think the photomatch is incorrect.

I appreciate your opinion, but remember the bat was used during BP, 3 AB's in game, and floated around the Marlins equipment room over two weeks before it was purchased. I'm sure it's possible he held the knob in his hand while leaning on it.

I'll try to find other photos of it, but I'm sure it's the bat he hit a HR with in the fourth. I was able to pick up a high resolution getty image which shows the same Squigly line above the M that mine has.

I'll add more information when I can, does anyone else question what I pulled up.I appreciate it, as this is how I learn.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
I think there's a good chance it's the same bat. I'd just look for better pictures. In the game pic of 1A there's two ball marks, but I can't tell if there's two on yours.

Here's the one with two ball marks I have. I did have flash on, so it may be over brightened so to speak.

Here's what I have been able to get together, I don't have the bat near me, but I altered the photos I had on my computer to help out. The Arrows are point to the accent over the M someone drew, and you can see that a bit on there. I'm in the middle of getting a getty image of his batknob that should help show how they are the same.

Thanks for all your help guys!

It looks good to me. Weird how it looks black on the game photos but not so much up close.

Yeah, it is weird. It's a beautiful color- and oddly the color I chose for all the furniture in my bedroom. I have always loved cherrywood, and this looks perfect next to my furniture.

Thanks for your input. I read your article about Mcgwire bats the other day- very informative. Kind of put to rest my hopes of owning one too- lol.

Great piece and nice job matching it! Can't wait to see what kind of HR numbers he puts up in the years to come. He's a beast, and despite the Marlins' disappointing season, he remains one of the true bright spots for the future.

Cool post

I got a chance to get is signed sunday morning pregame- pretty cool experience. Glad I went out early with it as I had never done anything like it before.

Hopefully I can add to my collection one day with something just as cool and with a story along with it.
