Maybe trimmed cards are now as hot as E120/121s.

These grading companies are not doing their jobs. They should protect the consumer first and foremost. How could they have graded this card authentic.

Maybe more of you will start believing in the theory that slightly trimmed cards will make a major impact, value-wise, in the not too distant future. A trimmed SGC A E99 McCredie trounces an SGC 40 E100 Mohler on ebay. Both are popular players. Even if the E99s are a little more popular, the Mohler was beautiful for a 40.

I have an early Mantle graded by GAI as an "A." Does that mean there's a chance it has been trimmed. I sure paid a lot for it.

Peter, I would say the chances are very good it has been trimmed, however so slightly. The only other reason I could think for the Mantle getting an authentic grade would be color tough addition, perhaps?

It's a gorgeous '53 Color Bowman Mickey Mantle. Being on the cautious side I measured it against another '53 Color Bowman and it looked fine. The dealer said that he got it graded authentic because he didn't want it to get a low number grade. Overall it looked like a PSA 4 or PSA 5, but the color was spectacular. Just some wear at the corners, centering is good.

Definitely, did not have the wavy edge like the auction item above.

Peter, it's hard to imagine a dealer forsaking a PSA 4 for an Authentic grade instead.

It would never happen. It is either trimmed or color added Peter.

Just wondering about the buyer and his intentions with the card. Not implying anything at all, but if it does pass through the cracks at some point it could fetch far more than the selling price.

Again let me state, there is no implication here of any intentions to re submit the card on the buyers part.

I bought my first trimmed card (knowingly) the other night on ebay. It was a 1918 Zeenut with coupon. This one looked better, to me, than the one that was in an SGC 20 holder. The 20 went for about $250 more dollars too....If the one I bought is trimmed it is a teeny tiny bit....but I honestly can barely tell...there is some white on the top of the top border (they should be red and yes I said that the way I wanted to) so that must be it....I am happy with the A.....and isn't that really what it's all about? .....being happy....

I recently bought an "A" card as well for the first time. Tough card to find and was priced at around a 2-3 and looked like a 6. It's just a balancing test. Would you rather own a beater of the card or a much nicer example, albeit slightly trimmed? This is a question that can only be answered on a case by case basis.

Just bought this off of the bay. Also an "A". No matter what, this card looks damn nice!

I occassionally buy trimmed cards too, like a beautiful Cracker Jack Wagner that was only about $230. I just liked it better when there was no competition.

Turner,

That's a gorgeous T205, a real near-mint common would set you back almost a $1,000.

Leon, Jeff, et al.

I, too, have found myself buying the sgc A when the card is a beaut.
Admittedly, i have only 7 or so A's out of 510 different t206s so i'm a bit
on the choosy side as you folks are. when i look at these A's,I think tbob
is on target that we're going to see a time in the not too distant future when A's that are beauts will compete well with low to mid-grade cards that
are particularly difficult to find.

all the best,

barry
