Does anyone have any singles or the set and is anyone aware of any reproductions or fakes out there?

I remember seeing the set listed in the big book years ago and wishing that I could find one or at least the Koufax. This was before the internet, of course, and I was a novice collector with no budget to speak of. I ended up spotting and eventually winning a set on ebay later and since I only had the description from the book and a few internet images to compare, I was nervous about it.

I have never sent anything in to any of the grading/authenticating companies although it would probably be a good idea for more unique or rare items.

They exist Curt. I think I got these from Irving Lerner at the 1998 National. Haven't seen any since then.

Cool letter.

I have a sheet set and a cut set. I guess i am just becoming more and more paranoid about everything being faked and sold via ebay. I didn't have this fear years back, but the more I read these card forums and other sites, the more I become concerned.

Back when I was working on the catalog, those prototypes were so rare that we never had a decent picture. The picture in the listing is a photocopy of a Mays card . . . and we never had an image of the back (still don't).

That said, these would not be hard to reproduce since almost nobody will have a genuine card to compare colors, paper stock, etc., with.
