The Mantle is not a "horrible forgery."
It is, in fact, a rubber-stamp signature that the Yankees sent to fans in the early sixties who wrote to Mantle asking for an autograph. (I received one in 1961.)

I thought the Mantle looked like a stamp.

It seems that these "local auctions" are the latest way for sellers to dump bad fakes.

I think the Aaron is a common secretarial. I got a few of those trying to get him TTM back in the 1970s.
