You can upload one (or link to one) through your "User CP". It's fairly straightforward.

edited to add: obviously I was wrong! Hmmmm....

I've uploaded a "profile" pic but that doesn't appear to show as an avatar.

Avatars:
User CP ->Edit Avatar

should be the 6th option from the top on the left side.

Me too and mine neither.

I do not have "edit avatar" as an option in my User CP -- and it is not the 6th option either.

I tried to send a private message - it did not seem to work. I have used this function on another similar forum, so I think I did it right.

Has anyone else tried this?

When you upload images from your own computer, they display as a thumbnail. But, when a user clicks on them, they are shown full size. This is done to save server bandwidth and keep the forum moving faster. If you refer to an image already online then it displays full size.

If you bring your image in as an embedded image from Picassa or Photobucket, etc., you can show your image at actual size. If you use Net54 to actually host your image, you'll be limited to the thumb nail.

Just to clarify - your full image is still available but what gets shown inline in the thread is the thumbnail. When anyone clicks the thumbnail, they will see it fullsize.

John V,

Just cut and paste the HTML text from Photobucket into the text of your message and then click "preview" before you post. That way you can see if you're doing it right.
