Default August Autograph Pickups

I'll kick off this thread with a wonderful piece that I am happy to add to my collection (compliments of Jim Stinson). Pie Traynor autographed framed and matted cut... Who I believe to be the only hall of famer born in good old Framingham Mass...

Thanks Jim!

Nice one David!

Picked up this Barney Dreyfuss contract from Jim Stinson. Some water damage and a lighter sig, but I love autos on contracts. I now have autos of 227 different members of the HOF.

Wayne,
Nice pick up.
You also got yourself a very nice Tony Piet autograph, right below Dreyfuss.
He's not a HOFer, but you don't see full name sigs like that except on contracts.
Congratulations.

Dave,
That is a beautiful Traynor. He is very under-appreciated.
Best,
Mark

Thanks. You're right, I own a couple of old contracts, and this is the only one of a pretty decent player who got well more than a cup of coffee in the bigs. I should also mention that there is a nice auto of John Heydler on the cover, which I haven't scanned.

Wow with so many National threads, the August pick up thread is getting no love.
Well...Let me change that a little!!
I am soooooo psyched to post my newest addition.
This is card 73 of 96 for my 1934 goudey signed set.

Hank Greenberg rookie!!!

I paid a pretty penny, but am very happy. The card's condition isn't great, but the sig is clear and vintage fountain pen.

So cool.

Mark

Posted this in other treads but this is signed on front and back by Chief. Was made out to Mary who was Zach Wheats daughter and had some interesting content talking about World Series.

Default 2 Small Pickups...

- Picked up a Pitching Rubber signed by Clem Labine, Johnny Podres, and Roger Craig. I plan on meeting up with Carl Erskine in the next week and will ask if he is willing to sign it as well.

- Also picked up a signed 1964 Browns Super Bowl stock certificate. It is signed by the entire organization.

Picked up this nice 1929 signed Kashin of Chuck Dressen. Tough signature as he died in 1966.

Default 1957

These two were upgrades for my 1957 set which now sits at 309 (118 deceased signatures, 51 signed HOF cards – including Ford Frick winners and team cards).

Default UD Sheets

Admittedly not vintage, I started this sheet ttm in 1993 securing Baylor, West and Cowens. By the time I got around to getting Havlicek he had stopped signing thru the mail. I sat it aside intending to send it to a show. I rediscovered it and the second Cardinals sheet when being unpacked after last year's move to Kansas. Fast forward 19 years to Baltimore, I completed these by paying through the nose for Havlicek and Brock.

James- I just got a reply to a letter I sent Carl Erskine today. He was very gracious to answer my questions and also sent an autographed card. But would you please apologize to him for me? I forgot to include a stamp on my SASE which was apparently sent back to him and he was kind enough to re-post. Thanks, and he still has a beautiful signature.

I might as well post pics of it if I talked about it, huh? Here's a phone pic of the Erskine as well as a letter reply and card I got from Russ Kemmerer last month (sent the same day as the one to Erskine):

Jarrod,

I will pass the message. I will be going to meet with him on Monday morning. He said he has been working on a project that comes together this Friday, so that wasn't a good day for him...I'm anxious to see what the project is...

Default Signed vintage postcard of HOF pitcher Jesse Haines

Picked this one up today....

I definately recognize the image, but does anyone care to speculate on the age of the postcard? Unfortunately, I don't have it in hand to look at the back yet... Thanks!

Thanks Jim! I should have it in hand soon. That would be sweet if the postcard is of a 1920's vintage. The sig looks like it was signed in the 1960's or 1970's...

I know it's not baseball, but I have so many memories of watching his monologue on Friday nights with my grandmother when I was a kid.

Ladies and gentlemen... Heeeeeeere's Johnny!

I really love the fact that it's signed on a napkin and that the person that got it dated it (spelling Johnny's name wrong). It adds to the charm of it IMO.

That's a neat item; What I like about it is that Carson appeared to test the pen on the napkin prior to signing it.

I was at my in-laws' house when this auction ended, and my father-in-law can get competitive, so we overpaid for this (he footed most of the bill, MY MAN!). I do love the piece and have filled a huge hole in my HOF auto collection. This makes 228 different HOF autos.

Hey Danny,

A lot of times these sheets were produced in conjunction with either a "Heroes" game that happened before a real game or a "Heroes" event of some sort at the stadium. The sheets most often were tailored by who was to appear. In the case of Shannon the fact that he has been a Cardinals broadcaster since his retirement 40 years ago contributes to his stature in StL.

So cool.

Mark
Great Pickup Mark.. I love the signed goudeys.

Below is a signed ck I picked up this month. Dual signed during Ruth's playing days with the yanks with TWO tough sig variations. It was from the Walsh estate(Christy also signed it).

Damn!!!!
Ben,
That is crazy! Special on so many levels.
Twice signed, Full name signed, Geo H Babe Ruth signature, which is a very very uncommon variation of his signature, Walsh signed, and being a check with provenance from Walsh family has no doubt of authenticity.
Congrats on a superb pickup.
How are you going to display it?
Thanks about the Goudey. My set is moving along slowly but surely. It may take a while, but I think I'll get there.

Wayne,
Congrats on the Gehrig. That is a fantastic item. I love those postcards.

Best,
Mark
