Mark.. not sure how I display yet but most likely with a TYPE 1 photo.. I just don't know how to swing the two side thing.. any ideas??
Ben,
I'm obviously not Mark, but...
I would consider using glass on the back side of the frame.
That check is too special to hide, if you know what I mean...

Hey Scott... I know what you mean but I will still have to take it off the wall to view it. My Jim Morrison ck is framed like that.. it is cool. I was just wondering if anyone else had some other creative way to display a double sided piece. Nice to meet you at the national btw.

Ben,
Here are 2 ideas.
First is to make a high quality color photocopy of the back and frame them side by side under a type 1 or similar. A couple of years ago, during the Presidents weekend, we were in D.C. and went to the National Archives. This is the only weekend per year that the original handwritten Emancipation Proclamation is displayed. Because Lincoln wrote the speech on both sides of the paper, this is how they display the whole document.

Second idea is to pt the check in a holder of some sort with small hole drilled in the ends. Have the framer make an opening in the frame under the picture a little bit wider than the holder. Put 2 small pegs on either side of the opening and place the pegs through the openings in the holder so that it is able to rotate. If you want to see the other side of the check, you would lift the bottom of the frame away from the wall a little and just flip the holder.

The first idea is easier, but I think the second would look pretty cool in action.

Mark

That Ruth check is pretty sweet. Congrats on the pickup. These pickup threads are some of my favorite things on the board. It's fun to see what people drum up to add to their collections

Both of these are good ideas, Mark!

Ben, it was great meeting you as well. Congrats again on your new Ruth check!

These are two great ideas Mark..although the second option is creative and fun, I think the first option would be the best. The key is to figure out how to make the copy side look realistic.

Ben,
Another option would be to scan both sides of the check and print them as pictures instead of just regular pictures. Frame the pictures of both sides, so they match, and put the real check in the vault.

Ben,
The key would be to use the highest quality paper and scan using the best quality feature on the scanner. Go to Fedex Kinkos and talk to them about what paper would make the best quality copy for what you are trying to accomplish. You can also buy the paper I'm describing at Office Max or Staples.
