I recently acquired this and was surprised to find out I need it for my (somewhat expanded) type set to 1949. It was a few years ago when I first dipped past wwII cards.....but had to draw the line somewhere . These have a nice nostalgic feel to them and are quite inexpensive, relatively speaking....$67 for a strip of 4 including Teddy Ballgame and Lou Boudreau (HOF'er who struck out only 9x in 560 AB in '48)...

Leon, nice to see these in strip form, and to know that there are others out there who find these oddly appealing. I started a thread on them last year -- almost tongue-in-cheek, because many people "poo-poo" them -- however, it was good to see that there were others who really saw their merit...sort of like how your Big Head Unc thread awhile ago found some admirers. If you're collecting for type, then I guess you already know that there's a 1943 series of these too, with the back slightly different, no card#, like this Ott, for instance:

I had to partition my 8-card strip to scan it. Top scan are the left half cards and on the lower scan are the cards on the right end.

Sorry about the oversize scan. I leave it up to you to down size it. Incidently, these cards are not post-war, nor are they pre-war....
they are "AT-WAR". Is there another forum for this category ?

Paul- Yes, I am aware of the series one and I have a Dimaggio to fit that bill....The difference being the series one are unnumbererd and the series two are numbered except for a few cards, is my understanding.

Ted- My understanding is that series two is 1949, with series one being 1943?

The 1943 set may possibly be a late 1942 issue, based on the info on the backs of these cards. One of the key indicators
of this is Foxx shown as a Cubs player. Other indicators are the players stated age in their bios.

The 1949 set is a follow-up issue and has redundancy in quite a few players from the 1st set.

The 1949 set is especially funny or bad depending on your point of view. Players are shown wearing uniforms of teams they never played for. I assume that the maker of the cards just re-used 1943 pictures without even changing the team name on the uniform, but relabelled the cards as new players.

They are ugly but for some reason I had a complete set in 3-8card strips from 1949 (well, when I bought it the set was listed as complete then the Standard Catalog decided to add the '49 Foxx card which after talking to a couple of dealers they are questioning the exsistence(sp???) of the card.....I have not seen one or heard of a '49 Foxx card since I bought the set back in the early 90s.....and I have searched.....I have seen a 'Foxx from the '43 issue)Anyway, I sold the set at last years National (the dealer that bought it said that his '49 set was missing Foxx and that he had never seen the card either in all his years of collecting/dealing)
