I found this recently while going through some of my dad's old collectibles. (No. It did not fall out of the ceiling while renovating. I knew I had it. Just hadn't seen it for a while.) Thought it might be fun to share.

Jim- I've never seen that before and it looks really rare and important. That's a great find!

It's also the 2nd issue! That thing is amazing.

Thanks for sharing. I love old Negro League items. I didn't know anything about them growing up until my father told me that he used to sell peanuts at some of the games in Michigan when he was a kid. After that, I started reading up on the history and the players. It's a fantastic history to learn about. I wish I could have seen these guys play ball.

Thanks,

Andy

Barry,

I assumed it was rare, because I couldn't find any info on the publication. Important? Maybe, to someone who collects old Negro League memorabilia.

It's actually kind of fun to read the articles. They read like something from a high school newspaper. (Sounds like they had trouble with umpires, even back then.)

I'll try to post the Paige biography later. If somebody else sees a different article, in the contents, that they would like to see, let me know.

I've never seen that either Jim....Great item. Maybe we can get Chad or Ryan to chime in on this because I'm betting they've seen or have knowledge of this publication.

Jim, that would have to be worth quite a bit. Very interesting.

Here are a couple of additional pages/articles.

Thanks to those who have emailed. At this time, I'm not really looking to sell this. If I were going to sell, I'd probably go the auction route, mainly because the value of
something like this is hard to nail down.

Jim- smart move. Considering how significant this is, and the fact that nobody has seen it, suggests it is worth a bundle (don't know the exact definition of "a bundle" however).

After doing some digging, it turns out that there is at least one other copy of this exact issue. It is cataloged in the archives at Howard University in the papers of the Edward Bolden collection.

I mentioned to a couple of board members that, inside the magazine, I found a clipping of a game between the Crawfords and the Bushwicks (a local NY team).

One member asked me to post the clipping if I could. Hope you can read it okay.

The Bushwicks owner was not happy that they had lost 6 in a row to the Crawfords so he had signed the Dean brothers to play for Bushwick the following week.
