Default Do these CATALOGED cards really exist?

I've had some some Cardinal items on my want list for many years because they are listed in the SCD Catalog, or Beckett Almanac. Can anybody verify any of these?

1974 Capital Publishing #110 Bob O'Farrell (Beckett)
1968 Globe Imports w/Checkerboard backs (SCD)
1961 Golden Press w/cards in larger 2-3/4"x3-5/8" unperforated format (SCD)
1976 Hostess #7 Brock, #70 Sizemore, #30 Smith w/brown print back (Gilkeson variation book 1980)
1977 Hostess Twinkee #115 Hernandez 2x4-1/2" (Gilkeson)
1976 Jimmy Fund, Burleigh Grimes (Beckett)
1969 Nabisco Team Flakes w/size 1 15/16"x3" (SCD)
1982 Ohio HOF #92 Brooks Lawrence (Beckett)
1975 Sport Hobbyist #128 Stan Musial (SCD)

Also, can anybody verify the TEAM on 1971 Carl Aldana #16 Ed Sauer (Larry Serota, you out there? )

Feel free to post more "does it exist?" questions on this post. Thanks, Randy

Hi Larry, I knew you would come through on the Aldana set. If I ever sell the Hunters, you will know about it. Thanks, Randy

I've seen one of the Golden Press cards. Frankly, they look like some sort of interim production piece.

I've got about a 3/4 complete Hostess set, and it looks like the brown backs don't start until the 90's. I've got several duplicates with both brown and black writing.

Thanks Adam and David for your inputs. I think I will delete the Golden Press unperforated issues from my want list unless somebody else chimes in. I also think the Hostess issues don't exist in Brown.

Randy,

I can't help you out with these but as a fellow Cardinal collector I have a question. How often do you run across a '71 Bazooka Dick Allen Cardinals card? That one has been on my wantlist for several years. I noticed that Topps Vault just sold the negative used for the card on ebay this week.

Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff, that Bazooka Richie Allen is very, very hard to find. I got mine a long time ago and haven't had to actively search for it, but I NEVER see it, and I search Bazooka, Richie Allen, and Cardinals a lot. Let me know if you need a scan. I have info on almost everything pertaining to Cardinals cards.

Default 76 Fund Grimes

Randy:

I typed in that card into the Beckett DB from an actual physical card we had in house. That card does exist, no there is no scan available

Somewhere I've got a big stack of Nabisco's but cannot find them (spent half an hour rummaging through junk).

The 3 Brock's I've got all measure 1 13/16 wide x 3 tall.

I am pretty sure that the stack of Nabisco's I can't find didn't have any oversize ones, if I find them I'll check them.

As a sideline on those, the Brock is the image used in the Sports Illustrated posters of the same time frame, I don't know about the other ones.

Thanks for the offer Randy. I don't need a scan as I know what it looks like, I just need the card. If you ever see one and you don't need a dupe please let me know.

Thanks again.

Jeff, will let you know should I see a Bazooka Allen.

David, I believe the entire Nabisco set uses the same photos as the SI Posters. They have the logos airbrushed.

I don't remember for sure what team Grimes was on, I remember those cards, they came from a long-time dealier and those were the only copies of those cards I have ever seen

The O'Farrell may have came from a checklist -- or it may have come from the actual card -- either way I typed in that checklist

The Ohio HOF card was typed in from cards Dr. Jim had in his library.

I'll be danged if I can remember any more details but I do actually remember all three of those cards as extant

Rich, thanks again for your input.

Nobody has commented on the 1975 Sport Hobbyist Musial card. I would bet money this card does not exist. Does anybody have card #128 from that set?

A few more questions for the experts on this board.

Does the entire 1953 Exhibit Canadian set come with a red tint? I have never seen a Musial.

Does the entire 1950 R423 set come with different colored backs (purple, green, orange)?

Does anybody have (or want) a master list of 1976 MSA Carousel Discs? (I have 38 so far)

Randy

Randy,

How many different Carousel backs do you have?

I've got 426 Louisville KY
427 Louisville
428 Louisville
579 Sioux Falls, SD
925 Orange CA

I suppose the master list would have at least 925 different backs!!!!!

That should keep me going a while, they are about impossible to find.

Larry thanks for the R423 input. I knew green and red to be scarce. Do you have the 1975 Sport Hobbyist set?

David, 1976 MSA Carousel Master:

159 Wilmington, DE
177 Scranton, PA
284 Albuqurque, NM
368 Houston, TX
403 Indianapolis, IN
404 Merrillville, IN
426 Louisville,KY
428 Lexington, KY
452 Westland, MI
453 Saginaw, MI
454 Adrian, MI
456 Flint, MI
475 Cleveland Heights, OH
476 Akron, OH
481 Springfield, OH
485 Canton, OH
486 Youngstown, OH
488 Northwood, OH
505 Davenport, IA
526 Rochester, MN
527 St. Paul, MN
528 St. Cloud, MN
579 Sioux Falls, SD
585 Madison, WI
588 Madison, WI
688 Omaha, NE
818 Englewood, CO
912 Westminster, CA
913 Anaheim, CA
914 Daly City, CA
916 Lakewood, CA
925 Orange, CA
926 Sacramento, CA
2760 Depford, NJ
4180 Federal Way, WA
9110 Redding, CA
Minneapolis, MN

I personally have discs from only 18 different issues from above list. Got the others from variations collectors. Kind of depressing, isn't it?

There is also another stamped obscure issue called "Circus Wagon" I have one from Canton, OH, and another from Belden #2. Not sure where Belden is.

I went through my 1976 Carousel discs and the only one I found that wasn't on that master list was #359 Memphis, TN. According to the price guide there is at least one from Alaska but I have never seen any of those. I also have a 1976 MSA disc that is stamped "Tastee Freez of North Aurora", I am guessing that it is from Aurora, Illinois.

Hi Randy:

Below is a scan of the red or brown tint Canadian Exhibit of Musial. You are correct in saying you have never seen one. I looked for YEARS for this card. A real tough one.

Cliff, thanks for the contribution.

Whitey, wow, it does exist. I have seen probably 10-12 blue Musials thru the years, (without searching everyday). Haven't seen the red until now. Thanks very much for sharing that. Randy

On the Nabisco Team Flakes, I have collected them for years and I have only ever seen them in two sizes but I have never seen one the size you list, the only ones I have ever seen are with short and wide borders, here are examples-

I have a set of the unperforated Golden Press cards minus the Ruth and Cobb cards. I won it on eBay thinking it was the regular Golden Press set and was initially annoyed when I received the cards as they were (are). I wasn't aware of the variation until I looked them up, and still am stumped as to what to charge for the cards as singles. I'm thinking about an eBay minimum bid of $9.99 each. Does this sound about right?

Hi Scott, you may have solved this mystery for me. The size I listed I got directly from the SCD Catalog. I have never looked for wide borders as your scans clearly show. Can you tell me the sizes of both of your scans or are they the same size? Thanks, Randy

As per my above post, I have most of the cards from this set. They were issued in the exact same "Golden Funtime" book as the perforated cards with the exact same pictures / colors / text. They just lack the perforations. If cut correctly, the entire white border is intact (the same white border that gets discarded once pulled apart from the perforated versions). This is why the hand cut cards measure larger than the perforated cards. I actually plan on listing them on eBay soon. I'll post a follow-up w/ a link so anyone that is curious can check them out... The scans are different, I will measure them when I have time this week. Also if anyone has a pic of a panel with the large borders can they please post it, I have never seen one and would like to know how many cards are on one.

If anyone is interested in seeing what these cards look like (1961 Golden Press large/unperforated variations), search eBay for "1961 Golden Press Variation" ...The cards listed are mine; I hope I'm not breaking any thread rules by posting here... If so, I apologize in advance and will remove the post if directed to do so.

I have several strips (and quite a number of singles) in different colors (no reds or blues). If you can post a checklist of what you have, I can see if I can make any additions or confirmations.

Thanks.

Go Cards!!
I used to own a 1961 Golden Press set years ago and when I attained it I had no idea what it was. I remember it taking me a couple days of research and page flipping in the beckett almanac to learn what I had. I distinctly remember a gentleman at that time had an unperforated set for sale on craigslist a couple hours from my home and I never made the trip to purchase it from him. I thought it woulda been cool to have the two sets side by side, that's the only reason I can remember it. So yes, it does exist - for sure.

Default Musial Sport Hobbyist card does exist

I thought I would revive this 10 month old thread to report the existence of the 1975 Sport Hobbyist Stan Musial card listed in the first post. I was the under bidder tonight on this card. Congratulations to the winner if he is on this board.

Default Musial

Wouldn't a card like the Sport Hobbyist Stan Musial that has been on collector's list for years sell more than $54?

It would have been a great item for $ 4. That it one of the few sets I have , Topps or Fleer, I have not been able to find a way to display effectively. The 68 Plaqs, and 68 Action All Star Panels, and the late 80s Double Headers are others

Default 1976 brown ink

I can't speak to the exact player you are talking about, but the brown
ink version does exist. I actually have two panels.76 hostess panel brown version0002.jpg

Thanks for the post on the brown ink Hostess cards. I am looking for brown print specifically for the players in my first post.

Thanks to Net 54 Collectors I have been able to verify the existence of the Capital Publishing Bob O'Farrell, the Golden Press cards, the Nabisco cards, the Sport Hobbyist Musial and the Canadian Exhibit Red tint Musial card.

To me, this is where the board is the most valuable, the contributions of its members knowledge.

Randy
