Default Opening a T206 cigarette pack

Posted By: ty_cobb

I was reading of a Piedmont cigarette pack
which was opened , from the heights of
excitement tearing open the foil, to the
depths of heartbreak pulling Otto Knabe!

Newspaper ads of the day in the New Orleans
daily Picayune state that 2 southern leaguers
were in a single pack, other Hindu ads show
several major league players in a single pack.

Old time collectors said that you could get
three or four players in a pack. But was it
only in certain brands? I find it hard to
believe there would be several cards in a Drum
pack. I thought it was possible to get 2
cards in a Polar Bear pack, but what about Piedmont?

TY

I can only say that every Piedmont and Sweet Caporal pack that I have seen opened only contained 1 card.
The Hindu in the Ad contained 2 cards, but I don't know anyone who's ever opened a Hindu pack. later brian

Default Opening a T206 cigarette pack

but I was wondering if anybody knows if cards were
pulled from 20 count soft packs besides the 10 count
slide boxes. I emailed the author of the latest book
on cigarette cards asking this same question and he
said he didn't know much about cigarette packs.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Mike

I have seen cards in Soft 15 packs, but never a 20, and the best bet to me are the slide 10's of Sweet Cap and Piedmont. thanks brian

Otto Knabe woukld suit me fine! (unless, of course, I paid way more for the pack than a Knabe costs).

Then I'd probably smoke a cigarette. Stale, I bet.

Begun to lie to a series of doctors about quitting smoking--have to apply for supplement to Medicare, now that I've been kicked off of SSI and Medical (caid, to most of you). Boy, perscriptions are...SCANTLESS, before the patent wears out! $122.00 a month to keep heartburn away...no, thanks. 91.00 a month to keep cholestoerol down--that, I have to have.

Sorry, I DO tend to get off the subject, don't I!

It's interesting, I have never seen any information
anywhere about the type of packs the cards came in
except for the slide boxes and pouches. You would think that with the popularity of the baseball cigarette cards that they would have been issued in all types of
packs. Again thanks for the info.

The following is from John Harris, I thought, I'd add
it for those who have not seen it.

I have seen both Polar Bear scrap tobacco tins and soft paper "pouches". Both contained scrap tobacco as opposed to cigarettes. In both cases, I believe that the cards were inserted directly against the tobacco.

I was once told that the Polar Bear packages contained more than one card. So, in essence, it is possible for only one card to have been in contact with the product and the others to have been protected. It also makes sense that more than one card was put into each Polar Bear package because of the size of the pouches and tins. They were much larger than the other company's tobacco packs and probably sold for much more and would, therefore, warrant more "premiums" to be included, i.e. cards.
