Here are my three SF Mullin Giants ... all three have subtle differences, middle one is turquoise and is missing the little baseball mark, also GG is white. Pennant at top is purple.

Lots of variability on the Trench pennants, actually ... here are two versions of the same Redlegs ... one on left is older (presumably 1956-57) with TMC mark, right has the baseball mark and team name stretches much longer towards the tip.

Attention Mr. Domer: Came to a realization that this here pennant must be a Keezer. For one, it is one color with the standard thick tassels. But I’ve only seen this for the 1946 and 1948 WS, both of which had teams from Boston. (Keezer was in NH.) The 1948 which I don’t own was made two-sided with Braves on reverse, which helps identify others of similar style from the late 1940s including some roster pennants.

What I can’t figure out is ... why is there a 9 on the pitcher’s chest?

If pennants were collected like cards, could you imagine the money some of these subtle variations would bring?

I'm glad they're currently affordable, but hoping the prices take off right before it's time to liquidate. Just like the Mariners winning a world series... It could happen!

While we're on the subject of cool and cheap variations...and with Rob showing his latest left handed batter variation...I thought I'd share this. I'm typically not a Cooperstown or HOF pennant collector. But this one was too cool and cheap to pass up.

Funny story...

I was due for an upgrade for my work phone, so standard policy is once you receive the new phone, you "open a ticket" online to return your old one back to corporate. We use Fed Ex shipping for this. So last week I open the ticket and receive the standard, "Fed Ex will pick up your phone tomorrow between 9:00 and 5:00 and will provide the shipping label etc" message.

So tomorrow comes and goes...and the next day...and the next day...all the while my old phone is packaged up, sitting inside my front door, ready to go. Finally yesterday, I think to myself I have to follow up and see what happened to the pick up...but I get sidetracked and never do.

Now it's today, early afternoon...I'm sitting on a call and I get pinged on Skype from an employee whose name I don't recognize. The message said:

"Hi Rob...I received a package from you with the wrong content. I actually appreciated it very much as I'm a Niners fan as well..."

I'm thinking who the hell is this and what is he talking about? Did I sell this person something on Ebay? Then he continues...

"I was expecting your old phone"

Then the lightbulb went off. I had bought a Niners pennant on ebay a couple weeks ago that had never arrived...or so I thought. Apparently it was delivered to my front door the day Fed Ex showed up and they mistook it for the package they were supposed to pick up. They just slapped a label on it without knocking and delivered my pennant back to corporate. Didn't leave a receipt or anything.

The guy was really cool and is sending it back to me via Fed Ex free of charge....but thank God I didn't order anything embarrassing. LOL

PS Marc...Nothing too exciting. Just their 1981 NFC West Champions pennant.

That's not the easiest pennant to find. Let me know if you ever see one that is white. I've been hunting that one.

I just found this HOF pennant also. Supposedly from 1939.

The white one is a white whale. I've never seen one for sale. As far as I can tell they only made these pennants for 1980 and 1981. Some of the teams you see pretty regularly...Browns, Eagles, Bengals, Falcons. Others are a lot harder. The Niners is pretty hard. I just picked up a Dolphins I had never seen before.

The Cowboys, Chargers, Bills, Buccaneers...Forget about it. Never saw one.

Never seen either of those pennants. I like the '46 one. I agree: could be by Keezer. Unfortunately, it seems they were a bit inconsistent in their use of maker's marks around the late 1940s / early 1950s ... I take it neither of these had any labels or stamps for either Keezer or their predecessor, Felt Crafters, on the reverse?

The Braves one is technically two-color; so if that's by them, it would be an anomaly.

That "9" looks really bizarre! I do have an explanation for it. The artist tossed it on there to appeal to the hometown/Sox fans' favorite player: Ted Williams, who wore #9

In my view, the Williams connection further supports your argument that this '46 pennant was indeed made by Felt Crafters/Keezer. Nice work!

Wow, Bob! Congrats!

I'm curious what percentage of pennants do you guys find on ebay?

For me, it's about 95%, but I'm not a "heavy hitter."

Some eBay, some auction houses. I went a couple years without buying any but with all this down time at home I find myself buying more and in general paying more attention to my collection.

I guess, since I only search Giants and very, very rarely see anything rare on ebay, I am wondering if you guys find good stuff in general in ebay.....or does that stuff all find its way to the auction houses.

Not a pennant, but saw this Raiders item and made me think of Greg's AFL Raiders pennant. I recall some discussion about what was depicted in the graphic. This stuff is dated to 1964.

This is cool. Is it on Ebay now? I don't think we ever confirmed what that graphic depicts. I can't find a picture of that pennant with a clear enough shot of the graphic. Looks like a QB about to get hit, but I don't see a football in the raised arm.

Greg...Inquiring minds want to know.

Yeah...Maybe reaching for a sword to defend himself? But grabbing the sharp end? That doesn't make sense. Curious design. You'd think they could've come up with a better rendering of that.

Wow cool finding. So they actually used it as a team specific logo. I thought it might have been more akin to the sliding runner baseball pennants where the pennant maker just slapped on a generic graphic. Makes sense if it is mid 60s, probably came after the pennant with the gold printing. I noticed that the Chiefs AFL has two versions, one has a touch of white in the dancing Indian and the other is all red. My guess is that the single-color AFLs came later but Football Rob would have a better idea.

Sportslogos.net dates this as 1963, at least the shield part of the logo.

Seems like the letters etc. were sent out between the 1963 and 1964 seasons ("new seats approved for 1964 season").

It's hard to say with the AFLs. There are plenty of examples of single color pennants that can easily be attributed to the earliest days of the AFL. The Los Angeles Chargers have several and only existed for 1960. The Dallas Texans do as well (as you well know given recent events ). Also, the New York Titans.

And the AFL logo is not really a good indicator of age either, as it appears to have been used so intermittently. There are early examples of Texans and Titans with it, so we know it began somewhere between 1960-62, but then many other examples from later in the decade that do not have it.

I always thought the player had a hook for a hand; and, he was trying to secure his hook to the sabre/logo overhead. But, upon further inspection, it appears like he has a regular hand ... and, yes, he's grabbing the blade-end of the sword.

Which makes no sense.

No wonder they scrapped it.

Cool.

I think the Raider is a receiver, waiting for a Tom Flores bomb.

I’m mainly thinking of the Trench pennants, it seems that when they started using NFL/AFL logos they didn’t stop. The later ones we see without are probably other makers like Ad Flag.

New additions ... it seems we have been collecting mini pennants all along. (These are six feet long.)

Nice, Greg. I saw that Astros pennant one time about three years ago. Pretty cool. You might need to go to a cubicle system if you are going to display those.

That’s interesting ... I have a vague memory of the early days of eBay, bidding on a huge orange Mets pennant. Can’t say I’ve ever seen another and Google searches all come up empty. Pretty obvious that they were made by ASCO - very well made - what’s interesting is that these are all identical versions of their 1969 pennants, enlarged to scale except for their fat MLB trademark which is the same exact size as on the 30” pennants.

Have no idea how/where I’m going to display these.

I was the underbidder on the Astros. I think it sold for about $250. I thought it was really cool, but I could not think of a place to hang it.

Why not on the floor of your rec room? Put them under a clear plastic sheet, and just think of it as the world's biggest pennant cover.

More realistically, maybe the ceiling is the place? I know "Baseball Rob" might agree!

Realistically I’ll keep them on the pool table for a few days then put them in a tub to be discovered by whomever breaks into my house to find my deceased decaying body in or around 2055. Or I might just put them in the hallway to the basement. These are pretty wild, though ... the sheer size of them would suggest that they are likely to survive. I wonder if they were made for sake to the general public or fir other specific purposes. I wonder if somewhere there is a white Pilots ... that would be amazing.

I PM'ed Greg that years ago (I'd say 20) I saw a big Giants pennant on ebay. I didn't get it. Greg said he'd like to see it and I was gonna send this pic just to him, due to the extremely poor quality. Then I thought "what the hell".....we "pennant guys" need to share. Also, here's a pic I've posted before of a giant Giants pennant at some 1060's Giants function. This pennant may be similar to Greg's finds.

Rob ... very cool, thanks. That’s definitely the ASCO design at the top, the Giants and Twins are the two teams for which they used only one color print. (Weird that I know this but remember I have a strange obsession with this series.) It looks like I can see the MLB trademark but it is unclear. The dimensions are different ... the ones I have are 30” wide by 72” long. The spine is three inches wide and I don’t see any grommets in the pic. In the pic below I can see it hung by grommets but this looks very different in every other way including shape. Both are very nice.

Default pennant guys

I collect BF3 mini pennants. I also collect the BF3 premiums pictured below. I own 7 of these. But in all my years I have never seen the REDS pennant and only a very beat up WHITE SOX one. Do any of you gentlemen own or have seen either of these two.

Not me. I have three. (Cubs, Cardinals, Phillies) and I’ve only seen a few others. Some guys here who have others will likely jump in.

Haven’t seen this one before. Toronto Argonauts of the CFL. 1950’s?

Sweet! That Argos pennant just might creep into the early 1960s. Is it cloth or felt? 3/4 or full size?

Great pennant regardless of its exact age!

Awesome.... I'd give it a range of mid '50s - early '60s.

Great find!
