Default Chris von der Ahe - Show 'em if you got 'em

I'm not very familiar with the N172 set but had to jump on the chance at this iconic baseball figure for the price. Please share any photos or cards you have of his.

Jay wins.

One of my wife’s coworkers is a descendent of his. No memorabilia though (I asked).

Thanks. Wish it didn't have that severe breakthrough crease, but when it comes to this stuff you have to take what you can get.

As a primarily HOF collector, I do allow for a number of "significant others" and von der Ahe is one of them.

He made the pre integration list in 2016 but didn't get very far. Without looking it up I think he was well behind Dahlen who had one of the highest %'s.

He made the 2016 ballet but didn't receive a lot of votes. The Pre-Integration committee has 16 voters with 75% (12 votes) required to get in. The 2016 results were as follows:

Doc Adams = 10 votes (62.5%)
Bill Dahlen = 8 votes (50%)
Harry Stovey = 8 votes (50%)

All other seven candidates each received three votes or fewer.

Von der Ahe deserves to be in the HOF more than Tommy McCarthy, but that's not saying much. He founded and led into the National League the team that became the St Louis Cardinals. Tragically, he died in poverty.
