Default Decided to scan some of 52 H/N cards.

HP Photosmart C4780 set on regular scan, I believe?

Cards look way different than in hand, but it's nice to look at them blown up.
These were reduced to "Large" size. The original size would likely be too large to be accepted?

Thoughts on any of them would be appreciated. Not sure what to send in when the time comes?

Mantle and Mays aren't scanned due to them being in cubes/blocks.

they are nice cards but they really need to be in the PSA 6 range for maximum interest ..I think you get about 1200-1500 for them in total. the nuxall is the best of the bunch I think..psa 3s go for 250 bucks and it may grade higher than that

It really surprised me, after I scanned them, the details the scan shows.

All the borders look dirty in the scans compared to holding them in hand, but the damaged corners are much easier to see with the scans.

Thanks for the info. That will help when I do, someday, get around to sending some in for grading.

Right now, it looks like Mays, Mantle, Robinson and maybe one or two others in my high numbers will be the only ones getting graded.

None of these cards have ever been touched, cleaned, soaked etc. I received them and they went in the holders days later and have been in them for 20+ yrs now.
Thought about maybe wiping the cards/borders with a damp cloth to help clean them up a little, but I am leery about doing anything to them.

Don't try to clean the cards. They're fine.

Mine are much lower grade, but I decided to have the all graded by PSA nonetheless. It will only help when I/estate goes to sell

Surprised your Thomson graded as low as it did?
Looks as nice, or better than your Herman, Clyde and Joe? Was there an explanation or a reason you know of?

Thomson has a very light wrinkle on the front. That pretty much will knock it right down. I've gotten. A bit better at noticing them, but I still miss a few now and then.

I am learning as well, but have a long ways to go!

I like your cards a lot and after viewing them, I am also considering sending more in now for grading.

I assume, because your's aren't in the newer PSA holders, that you have had your's graded for a while now?

A few more of mine.

RM, seeing as your cards are autographed, I'm curious if that has an affect, either negative or positive towards the grading level?

Nice cards BTW

It's always been a crapshoot with the signed cards. I've had many cards go up or down as much as 2 grads from where I felt they should be.

Thanks for the kind words. I was not able to collect both the signed and unsigned set, and I decided to stick with the signed set. I am a fan of the 52s, signed or not!

Scanned a few more which I thought were the best of the bunch.

Going to get around scanning the rest of my collection as I have noticed things I never noticed prior.

Very nice cards, RM, and X2 on a very nice 2! That is by far the nicest 2 I believe I have seen?

Did you only ask for your Archie Wilson to be authenticated or is that the way it came back from PSA?

My Reese has a line/crease just under his nose and almost the full width of the card, but it has no damage on the back? I guess I had better scan the back just to verify but have you ever come across something like this before?

I believe the Wilson was graded before the would numerically grade signed cards. It would not be better than a PSA 1 with the paper loss on the upper corner so no reason to waste hard earned money sending it back in.

If yo' Reese, has a crease..or a hairline paper wrinkle, it won't get better than a psa 3 in my experience.

Thanks for the info.

The line/crease across Reese's face is hardly noticeable but I agree with you, PSA or SGC would definitely notice it and would likely grade it accordingly.

I didn't think it'd be worthy of a send in/grade either.

How come your card is also graded? (Unless it's a joke, which I believe it likely is) In this link, pg 5, it is just the autograph that is authenticated but there is no grade on the actual autograph/card.

What am I missing here because it's beyond obvious your card itself is no wheres near that number/grade.

Scanned some lower numbered cards today and I must say, my scanner, for some reason turns the borders grey/dirty looking for some reason? The borders (most) in hand under good lighting, are much whiter than these look like.
I am however still amazed at the small details, when full blown up, how much this scanner does pick up.

Really having a hard time with what cards to get graded? I think these, or at least some of these, are worth getting graded, but they are low numbers, so I assume it likely isn't worth it, especially considering the exchange rate, shipping, insurance etc?

Also, received some bad news today. My Uncle had quite a few H/N 52 Topps cards as well, including, from what I can remember, a great condition #407 Mathews! He told my Father today, he sold all of them a few years ago to some collector in the Belleville area? I have no idea what he got for them, but my Dad didn't think it was any more than a few hundred dollars!

You win some you lose some, but I remember telling him years ago, that if he was ever going to sell them, be sure to let me know.

Anything lower than a PSA 6 for almost all the low numbers commons really isn't worth getting graded unless you just like to protect the cards in those holders or like how they display....maybe a very very low POP card could sell for 50 bucks as a psa 5 like #80...

for #81-#310.. PSA 6 as well but many PSA 7s commons only sell for mid 40s on ebay.. for high numbers all are worth getting graded I guess..

sucks about your uncle...I do have a good shot to get a few unopened 1952 topps (boxes? not sure whats there) in a few years currently in a storage unit from tarrytown NY if an uncle doesn't steal them..i the only one in the family known to collect cards...my grandfather had a five and dime shop and kept some of them...my mom still talks about playing with the 1952-1954 topps cards and writing on them when she played with her brother....those cards supposed to go to my mom and if she gets them I 100% going to get them....

I see what you mean, 1952. The grading/PSA slab would be worth more than what the cards are

Lots, like you say on E-Bay going for low money.

Hoping your Uncle doesn't steal those cards on you, those would be awesome to get!

Thanks for your advice, I appreciate it.
