Default N269 Lorillard Boxing

Hello all, I’ve been a fan of boxing since the hey day of Smokin’ Joe, George Foreman and the like. However I had never chased boxing cards too much. Always wanted a n174 formal attire and thanks to Jay Miller I picked that up a year or so ago. I have added about 7 or 8 additional n174 to the little collection that has a set of t220. Several t225 and t218. A few t219. Set of leaf. Set less Murphy of ringside etc...

Now to the point of the post. About 6 months ago I bought Adams great book. While looking at the information in the book I decided I would pursue the complete set of n269. This set has proven to be quite challenging. Diligent auction watching. Emails. Pm’s Facebook groups etc.. and I have now gathered up the grand total of zero n269. Can I even say I’m working on the set? Lol. Only examples I have even seen for sale are the dozen or so that are on eBay. My research tells me these are priced at a premium so I have passed on them.

Does anybody have any of these in reasonable condition to sell?

I’m Mark and I have a problem ...
I collect an item that I don’t possess. Lol

Mark,

This is one of my favorite boxing sets and am currently working on a master set which I am close but have been that way for 7-8 years...

There are a couple of Ebay now that don't seem priced at to much of a premium... I believe they are SGC slabbed,

Which N174's did you pick up? The N174's and N332's are also a couple of my favorite issues. I hear there may be many more in the upcoming LOTG auction...

Mark, first of all, thanks for the kind words re my book.

If the cards aren't out there at all other than the ones on eBay, then the ones on eBay aren't priced at a premium. Truth is, given the small supply of these cards we really don't know what the 'right' price is at any given time. To quote an eminent scholar (me): "A total lack of transactions speaks volumes as to how many cards are really out there above the radar. If I report a card as not transacting for years and one shows up, you want to know that you need to jump on that specimen if you want to own one, not that the ‘book’ on the card says it is worth X..."

It sure is a great set, though

Full disclosure: I have no financial interest in any of the cards on eBay. The N269s I have are not for sale.

Brent, I haven't seen the previews on the LOTG Ringside sale yet but if there are any I will post it here first.

I went through the REA catalog that is starting next week; didn't see any N269s there.

Brent, I have 2 paddy Ryan, a boxing pose of Sullivan, formal attire Sullivan, a kilrain and a couple others. I would like to complete the set of n174 as well, but my money factory seems to nearly always be on strike.

Adam, I have almost pulled the trigger on the morrissey a dozen times. But when I go through the sold items at heritage, I keep telling myself to be patient. My patience has worn thin, but not as thin as my wallet! Maybe soon...maybe soon.

Mark,

To complete a set of N174's you would need to select one of the easier series. To complete the N174 set in its entirety would likely be impossible as there are still new ones being discovered. But however you decide to collect the N174 set it's a fantastic set and a nice challenge. Enjoy the journey!

Brent,

My use of the word “set” in relation to the n174 set is a little different. My goal is one of each subject listed in Adams book and all of the John L poses. That may still be impossible, but close will still make me smile.

Default Hello Everyone...

This is my first time posting and hopefully I will make someone happy with the following information.

One of my coin customers brought me the cards below and wanted to know if I am interested. Of course I said YES and he is supposed to bring me a box full that his Grandfather left for him.

Regards,
Ben

That's what I think too! Can't wait until Sunday when he's supposed to bring me the box full. I am dreaming of a Near Mint and Centered Sullivan. Will have to send it off to be Graded if there is one in the box. Gonna be out some money and other items. He likes Silver :-)

Default Sad Day...

The person who brought these cards to me two weeks ago informed me yesterday that he left them at the estate location. When he went back to get them, they were gone.

Since there are only two cards available I am going to post higher quality photos later today and will accept offers until this Friday at midnight. Thanks to everyone who replied earlier.

Ben

THANK YOU EVERYONE... THESE ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE... I RECEIVED A VERY GENEROUS OFFER AND DO NOT WANT TO KEEP THE BUYER WAITING... SORRY IF I HAVE UPSET ANYONE.

Default Here are the new photos...

Please, note that these were lightened a little to show the details and stains better. They are both about the color of this card...
