Anyone here own or seen old advertisements in magazines or newspapers for prewar baseball card issues? I seem to remember someone pointing one out on the the T206.com boards a few years ago.

I've heard of T206 and I think M116 Sporting Life. I'm not sure what others are out there.

the adds for t206 ran in the sporting life. the adds ceased shortly (six months, i think) before the sporting life issued their own cards

To the bet of my knowledge there is only one known advertisement for T206 cards and it was part of a Louisiana based newspaper for Hindu. I had one last year and sold it to Lyman Hardeman of Oldcardboard. This may not be the best picture in the world but I guess if you have never seen it, its better than nothing.

I have an ad for Colgans Chips which mentions "a ballplayer in each package".

I know there are some even nicer ads than this which picture Wagner and or Cobb in the ad but I found this at a flea market last year and thought it was pretty neat.

Thanks Scott. That's a neat ad. I just picked up a colgans tin about a month ago in a lot containing old candy and gum on ebay. I guess I'm gonna have to find that Ladies Home Journal now.

Mylar and acid-free board, which I'd have to look through, which would be noisy--and I'd need light. I'll look as soon as I can and put the date IN THIS POST, not another one.

Unfortunately, the page with the date is facing the backboard, and the thing is sealed in, but looking through the paper, it seems to be October 23 (or possibly 29) 1910. I'm sure about the month and the year but not the day of the month.

The old Sporting Life have ads for T206, Sporting Lifes (cards and cabinets) and often have the order forms for the Sporting Lifes. They also have ads for the James Jeffries Championship Boxers set (Playing card set featuring famous boxers). Just send in your money to the Los Angeles address. The Sporting Life pocket schedules also have prominent picture ads for the Sporting Life cards. You see these little booklets every once in a while. There are also baseball game scorecards that advertise the Old Judge 'photographs,' and non-sport trade cards that advertize the Newsboy cabinet cards.

I have a reprint of a Hassan poster that advertises T202 like pictures, it features, Cobb, Matty, and curiously Eddie Plank, I don't think he is on any cards Hassan printed.

Considering the Hindu packs each had 2 cards why are they so hard to find? We're they a regional brand of smokes? Or maybe they just tasted bad?

If you look at the Old Mill ad, it looks like it had 3 cards per box. (2 posts up) Doesn't mean that they came with 3 cards. I doubt the Hindu's came with 2 cards per box.

What Richard pointed out about the Old Mill is interesting. Also, I must disagree about the Hindu. I have heard that Hindu's, among other brands, did have 2 cards per box. In fact, the advertisement even states 2 cards besides depicting 2 cards. Supposedly, Polar Bear packaged up to 5 cards per pack. Also, as for the rarity question - yes they were distributed in small numbers. Finally, I believe Hindu was one of the more "expensive" brands as opposed to SC or Piedmont, therefore they had a much smaller purchasing group. I believe this can be compared with Dog's Head from the N series. I have often heard cards were packaged with Dogs Head because the cig brand was so unpopular, Goodwin hoped packaging the cards would spark sales.

I've also heard that Polar Bear came with up to 5 cards per package and that several brands had 2 cards per pack. Would be interesting to see how bad the staining is on an unopened package of Polar Bear.

Hi guys,
The Old Mill ad shows 2 cards and a valuable coupon in every pack. I believe most cigarette brands included 2 cards per pack, while the loose Tobacco packs included between 3-5 cards. Be well Brian

all unopened packs that I'm aware of have only contained a single card. Anyone here of a pack being opened and finding more than one card?

I can only imagine what an unopened Hindu pack would bring at auction.

The Honest Long Cuts I helped opened all had single cards, but the guys that I was in on this deal with said it wasn't unusual to find 2 or more cards in a pack.
