Default CLOSING TONIGHT 8/25 Birmingham Auctioneers 1st Ever Sports Photography Auction

It's live right now at www.birminghamauctioneers.com. This is almost entirely a single collector collection (with a very few added lots) and consists of hundreds of photos mainly from the early 1960's

What an era to collect! Tons of:

Mantle, Maris, Ali, JFK, Nicklaus, Palmer, Chamberlain, Russell, Gifford, Starr, Unitas, First years of the AFL including 1960 First season, 1962 Mets (First Year), Eddie Arcaro, Willie Shoemaker, Gump Worsely, Tim Horton Something for a fan of nearly any sport! Did we mention yachting???

Tons of Wire photos but also a nice amount of Type 1 Press photos, including some iconic events and moments! Also some team issued items and a few other odds and ends. There are currently over 350 lots and we have more to add!

Auction closes on August 25th and you must have preliminary bids in by 9pm that night.

If you are tired of the card scandals maybe it's time to get into photography? All lots start at only $5 or $10!!!

We also have a little time left to consign to our 2nd Annual Pre War Auction which runs in October.

I'd like to thank Leon and all the board members who have been supportive of our efforts. We will continue to make every effort to be worthy of your trust.

As always feel free to reach out to me personally with any questions. 717.327.8915

How do you ship the photos and what would be a estimated shipping cost? There are a couple I am interested and want to get a idea on how much to bid.

They will likely go individually sleeved in Priority flat rate envelopes reinforced for safety. So up to 20 or so would ship for $12.20. I could go Media Rate since they are photographs, but man that's slow and I've gotten some ugly looking Media packages over the years.

Scott,

Regarding Lots 166 and 167 showing the Navy Starting offense and Navy football starting backfield: Joe Bellino, the pride of Winchester, MA, won the Heisman Trophy in 1960.

Wow, didn't think I could be stumped on a Heisman Winner, but I didn't know that one off the top of my head. Thanks!

Also all type 1 photos are now featured lots, so to pull up the type 1's just choose "Featured" in the "Sort by:" Box on the top right.

Disclaimer...I sometimes work with Scott (who is one of the good guys in the business, so I don't mind bumping his thread)....

Great Photography auction ending tomorrow night. Type 1's and wire photos featuring The 1962 Mets & Astros, Celtics, NY Giants, Yankees, AFL football, Hockey, Horse Racing, Golf and much more. There is a ton of baseball from many teams. The best part is that most lots start at $5 and no lot starts higher than $10. Many lots available at the opening bid!

Jeff

Thanks Jeff, and thanks to those of you who have checked it out! with less than 6 hours left to bid there are hundreds of lots with a $5 opening bid including numerous Type 1 photos that still are awaiting that first bid. I have had at least 2 and sometimes 3 photo experts look at each lot, so I am confident in how they are categorized.

For the end collector I think there's a lot of cool stuff of your favorite teams and/or players that would be fun to own for just $5 apiece. For the investor there are several type 1's that could go for a LOT more money than the bid level they are at.

Below are a few type ones of iconic players and moments!

Frank Gifford getting knocked unconscious by Chuck Bednarik. This is the subject of one of the most famous NFL photos of all time. This one was taken just seconds before the iconic one of Bednarik staring down at the vanquished Gifford, right after the hit.

And the aftermath of the hit on Gifford, him being taken off on a stretcher. A great two items to pair together in a collection!

Maris thanking the couple who caught his record-breaking 61st Home Run.

First year of the AFL 1960 Dallas Texans game photo.

Popeye (Don Zimmer) in an action Type 1 of the 1962 New York Mets! There are several photos from the Mets first year including some other Type 1's, images of Stnegel and Hornsby etc.

Like this one of Gil Hodges on the 1962 Mets

Anyway thanks again for the support and don't miss out!
