Default Sterling Sports Auctions Pickups (May 2013)

While everyone was off scouting the pre WWI cards, I picked up a couple of Goudeys VERY reasonably priced. Placed my ceiling bids at 10:30PM. Went to sleep. Woke up this morning to find that I had won both at my initial straight bids. Too cool. Anybody else get anything fun?

With all the insane prices on T206s flying around it, I was kinda surprised Chesbro stayed so low even with the damage

I always think it would be interesting to ask--and now i finally will: Anyone regret a pickup from last night/this morning already? Seems like I often have at least a slight case of buyer's remorse over a card--though often I know it was a very fair purchase, just wish had bid on something else instead. Would be a revealing test case if I now asked: anyone want to offer up something they just won, or trade? Or maybe I'm the only one who sometimes feels that impulse.

One vintage and one post-war for me...

I don't know how to make the scans smaller. They were copied directly from the listings.

I placed what I thought was a ridiculously high max bid on the T206 Tolstoi Dode Paskert 1.5 because I need one for my back run. I have to say that I'm happy I was outbid rather than actually having to pay $200.00 for what should be a $40-$50 card.

I was able to obtain my favorite looking Big Train card (I love the pose and the detail of the uniform) and one of my favorite looking Mattys (I'm a sucker for "action shots" with beautifully colored backgrounds).

I almost bid on that Big Train at 1:00 am last night, something else caught my eye and I forgot about it, lol. Nice pickup

So if you pay by check and your order was over $400, you get free shipping. Is anyone actually patient enough to wait for that whole process to save $5-$8 versus just paying via paypal today and receiving the card(s) as soon as possible? Maybe I just have a problem...

Default Another EPDG

I was able to snag the Joss EPDG (under bidder on a few others); pin hole brings the technical grade down, but a perfect addition (especially when freed from his slab):

Congrats on picking this one up. You beat me on it. I have a CY Young portrait EPDG with the exact same damage. Must have come from the same collection at one time. I wanted to reunite some old friends , but looks like the card got a good home! Man, did I get blown out of the water on the 2 unconfirmed t206s!

Yea I hear ya, Chesbro was my backup option if the Old Mill Keeler went insane. It was insane at 250. By the time it hit 325, all I could do was laugh on it

Default Great pick ups everyone

To be honest I was shocked by the prices on the Piedmont Factory 42s. I know that they were both HOFers, but $1,100 a piece is a lot of change. The AB 460 card for $900.00 was a surprised me as well.

Congratulations Lee on another great auction.

Best regards,

Joe

And for what it's worth, Lee is one of the fastest shippers around. Paid a couple of hours ago and all ready have a tracking number.

Still waiting on a shipping status from Heritage.

I placed max bids on 5 different items and lost them all. I'm glad to see that Lee's auctions are doing so well. Brian Dwyer is a tough act to follow and Lee has made the transition flawlessly.

Congrats to all for their great pickups!

Picked up my first Wagner

Greg, to answer your question, I sometimes have that feeling of buyers remorse immediately after winning an item, but I think that's cause I usually don't bid too aggressively on a lot of items. As a result I often question whether I missed something critical in the auction description. For this card, I had a little regret as I feel I paid a slight premium based on the condition. At this Point I'm really hoping to finish the set soon and haven't had much response to my recent requests looking to buy the Cobb/Wagner.

Another fine auction from Lee. I won 19 lots and had 8 consigned lots.
Looking forward to next month's offerings

Default Wom More than I usually do

Thnk goodness for nice quarterly bonus at work.

Most of my birds came in well under my max --- which says a lot about the honesty of the auction. 11 Lots won, six under my max

I was shocked at one item I did not win though, throught for sure I had overbid and would win that in a breeze (200 different Eddie Murray cards and collectibles withour any 1978 cards). Otherwise, love my purchases

Rich

Missed out on the EPDG McGraw. I thought it went for way high, and I was the under bidder. Ugh! I did pick up the e95 Bender, e95 Hoffman, and the 1963 Fleer wrapper for my set binder. Different sort of win for me this time around. LOL

Does anyone else have EPDGs with this sort of damage? I have 4 or 5 with that same sort on the top right corner.

I won 4 including Marquard AB 460. It's only an SGC 20 but might well be ONLY AB 460 for him. Pop reports, of course, don't break it down but only one other AB graded SGC and one PSA and no sign of either of them in any sales or anywhere else--so mine could be only one. If you want to do the detective work, would love to see results....
