Default An Original Perez-Steele?

Odd question I was hoping someone may be able to answer. I purchased this piece for the signed GPC of Jim Bottomley but have always been curious about the picture itself. I am unsure if it is an original or if Lithographs were produced from the original. It measures 16*20. I purchased it framed so unsure what is on the back, but if I need to look for some sort of marking to tell if it is original, I am willing to crack the piece open. Any help someone could provide information about what to look for, it is greatly appreciated.

Here is a picture:

I had an original art from Dick Perez, a Barney Dreyfuss it was 10 x 14"
Don't believe they ever issued lithographs. Perhaps someone took a Perez / Steele postcard & enlarged it.

Here's the top & bottom half of the Dreyfuss, I couldn't fit it all in the scanner bed

I have the Nellie Fox original painting for the Perez Steele postcard from Dick Perez and it is on art board so that would be a way to tell. I also have the first painting of the Fox he did for the postcard and he didnt like it so did another one and that is what ended up being the P.S. postcard. Both are on art board .

A litho would have a dot pattern under magnification. The original painting will have no dot pattern because it's a painting.

Jim,

Thank you and everyone else. Dick Perez wrote back this morning and he believes that based on the framing and size that it is an original! Not bad for $350!

I am taking it to a local art appraiser to confirm that it is an original now, very excited, not that I plan on selling.

Frank
