Default PHILLY SHOW....trial trip to Reading Expo Ctr.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis

Yesterday was a nice driving day, so I took a trip to the future site of the Philly Show
in Reading, PA.

The Greater Reading Expo Center is a huge facility (much larger and more modern than
the Ft. Washington Expo Ctr.); and, it has an expansive parking area.

Reading is set in a beautiful scenic area of Pennsylvania surrounded by mountains and this
facility is within a short distance of the Reading Phillies (AA) Stadium.
There is also all the usual lodging places within a short distance of this facility.

We live along the Delaware River near where Washington's famous Crossing occured in 1776.
It took me 2 hrs. to get to Reading, taking back country roads. However, if you are starting
from Philadelphia, it is easy as you get on the PA Pike (I-76) and take it to I-176....which
gets you into Reading.

I am really looking forward to the PHILLY SHOW and I hope I see you all there......Dec 1 - 3, 2006.

INCIDENTLY, I filled up my gas tank in Reading for only $2.49/gallon.....can anyone beat that price ?

You almost make it sound worthwhile Ted, to drive two hours west of Philly in order to get cheap gas.

Prices in Brooklyn and Long Island are obscene, like $3.50 a gallon. It pays to drive in neutral (not easy to do).

Hi Ted,
Expect Gas to continue to slide throughout the fall, and even into the winter. The price was being artificially propped up by traders and should stabilize somewhere between 1.95 and 2.35.

Be well Brian

Ted thank you for the nice description of my home town. As for lodging Most of the chain hotels in the area are fine and none are to far away from the center.

Trip from where? I'm thinking of going, but it's more of a hike than FT. Washington. Also, if they move it any further, there won't be much "E" in EPSCC.
Best I can do is 2.51 here in Metuchen, NJ

From Metuchen, NJ you can work your way to I-78 and go west and it should take
you approx. 2 hrs.

I have gone to at least 30 of the Real Philly shows. Does anyone know how long the new show would take driving from NYC? Thanks CN

I live in Central NJ, and will make the trek. It's now a fairly long haul (around 2 hours one way), but I have loved attending the past 6 Phillys, and miss the show. Secaucas and White Plains are good, but they're nothing like Philly.

I want to continue to support the show and its dealers, and will count the days until a closer facility can be built.

According to Mapquest it's a 2 hour 35 minute trip one way door-to-door from my house in North Jersey. That's a half hour longer than Fort Washington.

That's a real long trip to maybe find a card I need. I'm thinking I'll make no more than one trip per year.

I also will be going to probably 1 show a year now when i used to go to at least 3 of the 4 Fort shows

John:

When the show used to be at Fort Washington and I was getting there via the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Turnpikes, picking you up might have been an option.

Now that I'll be traveling via Interstates 287 and 78 instead, you're on your own! Or maybe you can hitch a ride with Scott Ingold and you can chat for four hours about Tuckerton!

Kevin

Wow loooong memory there Kevin. But thats what i love about us...The great wit and humor.

+ I would never hold anything against John....You know being from such a bad depressed area that is.

The locals here are still trying to figure out what i'm driving. Not being a 4x4 with a rebel flag, I'm a bit out of place.

John & Kevin know this is all in jest. As us Jersey guy's need to stick together.

I for one can't think of a more maligned state than our overtaxed home.

I never have been able to adequately defend our state nickname to anyone whose sole experience with the state is exits 11 through 18 on the New Jersey Turnpike.

An extra half hour of driving? Wah. It's a 19 and a half hour trip one way for me unless I fly. You guys don't know how good you have it. Try living in the vintagecard desert.

JOHN....SCOTT....KEVIN

You guys have to move to Pennsylvania...."where people are friendlier". I can understand
how you can get "UGHA-BOOGA" living in that over-crowded and over-taxed state. Con-
sider these two benefits of living in Pennsy....less taxes....therefore, more money in your
pockets for you to spend on BB cards.....and you are closer to the Philly Show.

I found out once I retired I could no longer live in Joisey.....so we went west.

Ted Z

Tbob,

You may live in a desert but look on the bright side, you get to watch the HOGS almost every weekend. I made the trip earlier this year when I moved to Philly and the 21.5 hour trip sucked. It was kinda exciting going to my first card show in about 10 years though.

Scott,is it ok if you pick me up,Point Pleasant is almost on the way from Tuckerton to Reading, isnt it? I obviously dont have anything personal against Scott and i dont even know anyone from Tuckerton because ive never been there and no one who lives there leaves there

I can pay you in old judge cards for my half of the gas and tolls
