I just picked up this fan on ebay for $14.00. It was in an oddball location that nobody found. You have already seen the pennant, but here it is again.

Great fan Mike! And something about that pennant strikes me as a little bit "naughty".

My luck is holding out lately as I picked up three Western League baseballs today at a tag sale...one is autographed on the sweetspot by Lou Limmer who held the Lincoln homerun record until Dick Stuart came along in 56.

This is a circa 1920 photo of the Falls City baseball team - got this one from fellow Net54er Clint. Thanks Clint!

The mailman was good to me today also as I got this Joe DiMaggio/Dizzy Dean photo today in the mail. Shows Joe and Diz when they visited the Falstaff Brewery in Omaha in 1954

Got these old spring training snapshots in the mail today also -circa 1955 Red Sox/Reds

Dan, those are some good pick ups. The Falls City photo came out pretty nice.

Mike, I like that Cub pennant. I was thinking the same thing as Dan.

Happy Day! Not sure what makes me happier this photo arriving in the mail or the U of Nebraska finally firing AD Steve Pederson.

Anyway this was sold to me as a 1909 Nebraska Indians cabinet photo, but it was a little perplexing to me because it didn't appear to be the same team that I see in some of my other photos and postcards that are from around 1909....as soon as I blew up the photo I could see that this is actually from 1902 and that makes more sense especially considering the type of mount which was cropped out of the ebay photo.

Dan, I was wondering if you got that or not. Great piece. It would be neat to find that inflatable chest protector.

Collectors of Cleveland Indians memorabilia (at least the ones I spend time with) know how tough this book is to find, especially in nice shape.

I picked up the followings items at the Reading (former Ft Washington) Show.
By the way, How many of you memoribiliaphiles attend this show?
The best part about this show for me this year was with a few sales, I got some nice pieces for my collection, and came home with more cash then I went with. Gotta love that.

1950's Eagles Gibbs Connor Bank - This has been on my want list for a while.

Circa 1900 Penn Charter High School (a Philly private school) football player photo

Got some various Eagles pins and matchbooks including an unknown to me 1948 Eagles Schedule matchbook, a newer nothing special matchbook, a 1970's Eagles pin, and a large phantom 1980 SB champs Eagles pin

I just received this surprise today from Dan B. and a couple of his Nebraska Indians recreations. Thanks Dan, that Topeka card is great. It looks to be part of a team set.

Glad to see you got it Clint. I couldn't find any info on Forrester...you'll have to let me know if you can find anything on him. Here's the other one I picked up. Duff Cooley..I'm guessing there are probably more, and I would assume this to be an uncataloged minor league set (Strawn Photo Company)...I didn't even think to ask the guy where he got them, but I think he'll be set up at the antique show next weekend.

edited out image.

Like most all baseball broadcasters, Claude Haring (broadcaster for many years with the Philadelphia A's, Phillies and Pirates) kept score of the radio games he worked. I picked up some of his scorebooks containing hundreds of games that he announced in the 1940's to 1960's. One of the most interesting that I have come across so far contains Satchel Paige's first Major League win from a game while pitching for Cleveland and pitching in relief of HOFer Bob Lemon. Haring has misspelled his name as "Page".

Thanks Clint...I noticed when it arrived today that it came right out of your backyard (Wichita)...I hadn't even noticed where the seller was when I bid on it.

btw...Cooley is in the mail and should be in your hands in two days.

I'd like to thank Dan for this Duff Cooley postcard. He was the first Kansas born major leaguer. I've been in search of a Cooley card for about 10 years now. I only know of three issues he's available in and they're impossible to find. The great thing is it's from Kansas also.

Thanks again Dan

Got my Hunt's winnings in today...a bunch of snapshots from Mule Haas's estate. I'll just show a few here, but anyone can see all of my snapshots at my photobucket site.

A very young Mule - played in only 4 games with the 1925 Pirates so I'm guessing any photo of him in a Pittsburgh uni is rare. Oddly enough this is a 1922 Pirates uniform so I'm guessing he went to Spring Training in 1923 after he was signed and this in the uniform they gave him...so this photo is probably 1923.

Here he is in what must be a homecoming of sorts as it shows him in Montclair, NJ with another fellow who looks to be dressed like he's going golfing...anyone recognize that guy? What would you give to have that Athletics jacket???

Here he is posing with the Montclair club.

Here he is clowning around outside the clubhouse...is this in Pittsburgh??? Who are these other guys???

Anyone think the fellow in the golf outfit up above is Bobby Jones? Apparently his wife was from Montclair, NJ and he remodeled the golf course there in 1935.

Picked these up less than two hours ago at an antique mall. If I'm not mistaken, the A's pennant is a tough one to find. The condition is exceptional on both but the White Sox is unimprovable. I also found a Tigers pinback from the late 50s early 60s.

Nice pickups Mike...I haven't seen the KC one before and I used to look for A's pennants quite a bit on ebay in the past.

Nope...you may be getting Robert Trent Jones(the golf course architect) and Robert Tyre Jones(the golfer) confused. Trent Jones' wife was from Montclair , NJ.

Mike: Those are a pair of beauties.... makes you wonder how they could possibly be over 40 years old! I love that entire "stadium" series with the mascots above. I think these are grossly under-valued. The A's one is particularly tough... especially with the gold shading. The only ones I've seen (and there have not been many) have all-white graphics.

Thanks Mark. I've heard other pennant collectors say the same about this series. I'm a little puzzled. What about them suggests they are undervalued to you? Aren't they pretty common? I agree with you on this Athletics pennant. I hadn't seen it before today.

Mike:

The reason the Pennants feel undervalued is the aesthetic beauty, detail and artistry that they exhibit. They are not all that common either. Some turn up a lot less often than others. If you were to go on Ebay right now and search Original Hartlands (just an example), you will likely see about 6 Spahns, 5 Berras 4 Musials, 3 Mantles, 2 Maris and even a Groat or a Colavito.

That's a lot more inventory than you'll ever see (at a given time) on any variation of these Stadium Pennants. Yet the Hartlands range in price from $100 to $1,500, based on the player, condition and rarity. So if the Stadium Pennants were "valued" similarly, your KC Athletics example would be a $1,500 pennant!

I would bet my next paycheck (at least half, anyway) that there are a lot more Original Dick Groat Hartlands in existence than your KC A's pennant, as a point of comparison. For that matter, there are probably more '52 Topps Mantles and more '33 Goudey Ruths as well. That's what I meant by undervalued... perhaps under-appreciated is a better term.

My perspective and interests are obviously biased towards the pennants (even though I do own a Groat Hartland and a 1933 Ruth). The pennants just seem like a far better value, when taking rarity, aesthetics and displayability into account. Sorry for the long-winded rant...

We need more ranting like that Mark. Valid points all. I guess the demand doesn't always keep up. I conducted a few searches and you were right on. Interesting...veeery interesting. FYI the pennants are available for trade if anyone has Cubs, Yankees, or Tigers pennants or pinbacks available.

If I collected pennants I would hope that they stay unappreciated and undervalued at least for the time period that I was collecting.
