Whether you like pre-war or postwar, I find the biggest joy of cards is the simplicity and tradition that each generation can enjoy in a very similar manner as the one before. As a boy in the 70s and 80s, my uncles would see my cards and go "Oh, you got them by team. Yeah that's how I did it, too!". And I would like to think that 20 or 30 years from now, I could see a kid with a shoebox full of cards and instantly share an experience with him.
I like to spend time looking at and reading my cards AWAY from distractions whenever possible. I like holding my T205 Cobb and thinking about the people that may have held a similar card. I would just have no joy in holding something in front of a computer to see a simulated whatever. Even as a kid I never liked the "gadgety" cards (i.e. Sportflics, etc.).
I think the modern hobby is most successful and interesting when it embraces it's roots (think Topps archives or throwback sets) and doesn't try to be what it is not. I'm sure many people may enjoy this new approach.
