Jeff, I'm just trying to work out if the grand poobah reference is Flinstones or Happy Days....boy did we grow up with the best shows
And Bruce, I can see by your knowledge of the sordid array of posts you've been reading them. Good for you So what's your favourite 70s band?
I'm a Queen slash Little River Band guy myself.

Daniel

Ps. Oh, and is there any way I can get any more smile faces into my post?

"No one who matters cares." Wow, this is either a great put-on or the words of an outrageous poseur. I'm stumped.

PS - Wasn't The Clash the only band who mattered?

Daniel, definitely a Flintstones reference. And yes, our childhoods were the golden era of cartoons: Atom Ant, Flintstones, Top Cat, Jetsons, Bugs Bunny (reruns at least), Dudley Do-Right, Underdog, et al.

Thank you concerned posters. King--you are absolutely right--it is despicable to highjack threads and at a whim turn a serious thread into a punk rock or a Kinks thread or whatever.

Sorry Jeff--I believe abortion is the killing of unborn children.

Jim

Thanks for that flashback of forbidden love Dan. Though, from the looks of that vid, I suspect her band would have rather chewed on broken glass.

Jim, I have no doubt that you believe abortion is the killing of unborn children. That is not the point -- the point is, do you believe that all pro-choice people are for the killing of unborn children or just for the right of a woman to do what she wants with her body, notwithstanding the consequences?

I'm going to Costa Rica next month. Anyone have any suggestions for which National Park I should hike through, or a good SCUBA guide on the Pacific side? I promise not to abort anything in exchange for some good tips.

Jim, all I can say on this issue is that you need to understand that the conservative view that pro-choice people are all for killing unborn children is close minded and Dick Cheneyish, i.e., we are right, they are wrong and don't dare try to even argue with me on this point. This is why the Republicans fared so badly in November -- they just refused to listen to anyone but the very right wing core of the party. Perhaps a little more ability to hear what the other side has to say might help a bit in the next election. (And this is coming from someone who is for our foreign policy to a large degree)

I'm with Jim on this one. Like I said before, I think it's the babies that have already been born that we should be killing.

To kill an unborn child is just wrong. You should only kill children that have been born. I just can't stress that enough.

Please, STOP KILLING UNBORN CHILDREN!!!!

At least wait until they've been born.

This thread is veering off into so many different directions that I need to catch my breath to keep up.

Perhaps a good topic to discuss is: What do you think the Kinks' position is on abortion?

As a mostly lurker, sometimes poster, it is clear why threads that are started by Bruce can become hijacked. Although I have never met him, his use of the royal "we", the word "whilst", and misusing the word "cadre" reeks of arrogance.

The board would carry on just as well, if not better without him.

I have read several non-card articles and references on Bruce and his firm; these are available on the internet. When he is quoted, it is always "I", and not "we", and the tone is completely different from what he posts here.

If his tone was different, I am sure many people would enjoy his contributions and knowledge; fact of the matter is, if you take it from whom it comes, aspersions will always be cast his way.

It's clear that there are many people on this board that collect lower end cards and beaters, for whatever reason, that enjoy doing so as much as Bruce enjoys his high-end pursuits.

It is also clear that there are people on this board, such as Hal, Leon, Preece, and others whose collections rival, if not surpass Bruces's.

Come join the masses Bruce. Drop the better than thou appearance and contribute something positive.

...wrote a song about abortion. It's called Bodies -- the second track on Never Mind The Bollocks.

I would post the lyrics here, but they're unbelievably offensive.

Serenity now...Insanity later!

P.S. Understanding that everybody has a right to their opinion and whether it's off-topic or not, I'm amazed at the level of complete ignorance and downright hostility some people choose to employ when making these completely asinie and insensitive (not to mention uninformed and unproven) opinions...

Chad, My favorite bar owner here on the Cape, John Murphy, also owns an 'Americanized' resort on oceanside. They're a very nice family and run a top notch restaurant and pub. He's also a terrific artist. I understand his rates are very good and it's very safe and luxurious.

The Cape surfers rave about the spot. Take a look

Barry,

While I fully support your right to choose to abort your participation in this thread, Jim would rather you didn't.

Think about what your next post might have been if you'd only given it a chance!

Jim would like to know how it feels to kill your unborn post so coldly.

So how does it feel to be a post murderer, Barry?

MURDERER!!!

Is this band, Kinks, kinking or what....never heard of them ?

Sure, I am dating myself....but, just play me some good ole "Rock" from the 1950's, 1960's
and 1970's.....music I really enjoy and lyrics I can understand.

And, as far as I'm concerned...."THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED"....was a day in the mid-1980's.

Shortly, after Fleetwood Mac, Hall & Oates, Kim Carnes, Melissa Manchester, and Blondie
left the scene.

Jeff- what was the title of the Frank Zappa poster that pictured him sitting on the john? (today's trivia question).

Steve - 867-5309...

The sad part is that I didn't have to look that up.... honestly, I looked it up to make sure it was right, but for some stupid reason I remembered it...

Jim,

I think a lot of threads go off topic because something about the topic (or a post in the thread) triggers a thought to which the human mind, some how, relates. Out of impulse we just can't help ourselves and we either respond to a thread that's gone off topic or we can't control ourselves and we just respond in general. It would be a little difficult to keep every subject, everyday on topic. Could you imagine if we, as humans, only communicated to issues or topics presented to us? It'd be a bit boring. I understand your point of view though. It'd be nice to see a thread about E107 cards remain only about E107 cards. It makes it so that we don't have to weed through all the other stuff to find what were looking for.

I don't post very often, but this Thread has inspired me!

Ryan's mention of the 1880's shows the Thread is getting back on track, so I will contribute--I had an Old Judge once!

--and Pat Boone DID have some GOOD songs--I still have my original '45s of "Ain't That a Shame" and "Love Letters in the Sand".

Either or BOTH would be appropriate Theme Songs for this Thread!

"Pro-choice people believe that a woman has the right to kill her unborn child."

That is probably the most absurd and baseless comment I've ever seen on this Board, or anywhere. No wonder this society is in such a state of disarry. Pathetic.

P.S. "Come Dancing" circa. 1983 is probably the best Kinks song.
