Default December Pickups

I'll take the liberty of kicking off the December Pickup thread.

While doing some of my typical searches on eBay this morning, I came across this scarce PR photo taken of the 1944 Sampson Naval Training Center (NY) baseball team featuring several major leaguers including Johnny "Double No-Hit" Vander Meer, Hal White, Connie Ryan, Del Ennis and Red McQuillen. Vandy is the 2nd player from the left in the 2nd row from the bottom in the photo.
For the record, Sampson's 1944 baseball team went 25-2 against their competition including some major league teams including the Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox as well as several from the International League. Vandy pitched 5 times during their schedule, going 4-1.
I'm happy to add this to my Vandy collection.

Happy Holidays to everyone on net54!

These arrived today. They have long been on my want list. Now that I have them I must admit to feeling a bit silly about that.

They’re cheaply made, for sure, but a must have!

Just received these 10 Catfish Hunter win tickets in the mail, many of which had extremely low attendance. A very special thank you to Scott Garner who opened up his collection and allowed me to add these to mine. Scott is the best!!!!

That's right, that last one was 2,876 to see the 72-73 champion A's on their way to winning 3 in a row. ?????? LOL I wonder how many of those tickets are still around.
So, now I'm up to 13 Catfish win tickets.

Picked up this 1929 Springfield Dunnman season pass given to former NFL president Joe Carr and signed by former MLB player and team manager Joe Dunn. Wish it were signed by Carr, but can't be too picky.

I want to thank Matt for making this one available. It doesn't look like much, but Kiddo Davis has been on my want list for a while now.

Is that a gamer? Wow, to have a bat from one of the Gas House Gang. Nice.

It is, thanks! He was actually on my want list because he played 4 seasons in St. Paul. Definitely not a noteworthy player, but seemed to always be in the right place at the right time. He was on the 1931 Saints Junior World Series team and, if I counted correctly, was then on 5 World Series teams.

Default Just picked this up on Ebay, and I'm no um-day (Stooges reference)

Came from Shoeless Joe country...Greenville S.C. I'm guessing fresh to the hobby, well as fresh as something from 1912 can be. Heavy lil' sucker. Gonna pour a beer in it and drink from it like the Stanley Cup tonight.

Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH has an extensive collection related to the Draper & Maynard Sporting Goods Company. The precursor to that company began in Plymouth in 1840 making buckskin gloves.

Man, some really great items so far this month boys keep them coming. Dave being a Red Sox fan really enjoyed seeing the usher`s cap, outstanding sir. Paul once again a home run with that trophy, D and M items are really cool with that hound being especially nice. December`s off to a hell of a start !

Picked up Catfish Hunter win #192 ticket (16,320 att). Not rare, but very cheap, LOL. Also picked up two vintage unsigned magazines to send out to get autographed. Will show those when they get signed.

I scored an epic pickup from Lelands that fits my collection to a tee...

A Base from the last game ever played at Crosley Field. Not sure whether it was 1st, 2nd, or 3rd... but it's something I undoubtedly gazed at with wonder from the stands, as a kid. These bases were very well-used for many games, so it surely had a long life at Crosley Field.

My best baseball memories involve going there with my father, during the early formation of the Big Red Machine. So this was a nice score, and one I can easily remember my Dad by. Impeccable provenance as well, having come from the estate of Reds' long-time Equipment Manger, Bernie Stowe.

Great pickup for your collection Mark. I often think about going to games with my Dad in the 60’s when I look at certain items in my collection. We are all really holding on to a piece of our childhood through collecting.

A dozen golf balls, ca. 1960's, from the Giants' Francisco Grande spring training base. Horace Stoneham built this place in the early 1960's. It included a golf course, baseball practice diamonds and a bat shaped swimming pool, among other features.

As per another thread, I just acquired this 2014 (final season) Game Used Derek Jeter Home Uniform in Goldin's Auction. Fully documented, photo matched.
