Default I guess it's "Trimmed Card" week on ebay

Posted By: Bob

I swear I have never seen as many trimmed cards as I have on ebay this week. I am not talking about cards for sale which are trimmed and then slabbed as authentic, I am talking about raw cards being sold. The sad thing is that all these caramel and tobacco cards, whether they be E96s or E94s or E98s or T206s or T213s, etc. do not have one whit of caveat in their descriptions. There will likely be some really ticked off, unsuspecting buyers out there. I bought one which was a gorgeous E96 for not much on a BIN, knowing it will wind up in an SGC authentic holder, but I hope prospective buyers acknowledge that all these cards will never grade any higher than authentic...

Seems like a computer program could determine trimming by taking the image and comparing the total border area to the overall card area or the non-border area of the card.

Does anyone know if such a thing exists or could be created easily?

only problem with a computer program is that lots of caramel and t cards for that matter are variable in size...from the factory.

Chuck,
I had that exact idea about two years ago. I'm certain it could be done. I just never quite got around to it. Peter is right, though. There are many issues where that ratio is not exactly fixed. But it would be a powerful tool on most card series. Best. Ed

Would it be possible as you come across these auctions/sellers to list them here so those of us less adept at picking up the trimming don't get scammed? That would be very helpful.
thanks!

Bob,
Do you think the raw e90-1's are trimmed?
Thanks,
Scott.

And how about the four raw E94s? Do you think those are trimmed?

The Dougherty possibly looks trimmed.

What about the Devore, Doolan, and Lobert.

The e90's and e94's look good to me (but, then again, I don't work for SGC).
One exception, the Dooin looks a bit short .....

On the E94s, I wasn't referring to that grouping of 4. There are some other E94s being sold along with some E96s which all look trimmed. Two of that E94s were binned and both look very trimmed, in fact one of the buyers agreed but thought the price was right anyway, and I agreed with him.
It doesn't take a grading expert to look at the backs of the E96s and see that they are altered. The seller sells cards from all eras, with a lot of 2007 cards, so he probably is very innocent about the trimming.
