Default Another Omaha Old Judge Question

Sorry for the horrible picture, but this is what was provided to me and I don't have the card in hand yet.

Can anyone tell me if this card is from the 1888 or 1889 series?

It has the front of an 1889 card (1890 cards also have the "Cigarette Factory" label on bottom, but are only conclusively dated by the team on front).

1888 cards come in two types (see scans), both of which have the line "Cigarettes" alone in the middle at bottom...

1889 cards (and 1890 cards) have the "CIGARETTE FACTORY" line on bottom...

Hope this helps,
-Rhett

I'm a bit confused now though as this 1888 I own has the "cigarette Factory" line, but clearly says 1888 on it.

The printed date does not always correspond to the year the card was released into circulation.

Barry, so you're saying this card is actually considered to be an 1889 even though it says 1888 on it?

I think that is true. Jay explained the dating to me once but the details are hazy. Hopefully he or Joe will jump in here.

The date refers to the copyright on the photo, not when the card was issued.
