Smile Save the puppies part 2 auction ends 9 pm central 8/19

My first (get the cards out of the house) auction to benefit Safe Haven Furever was such a success ($360 raised for the shelter) that I am going to try something new. I have a lot of 100 cards from 1939-1977. 87 of the cards are of hofers (the other 13 are two 1952 Topps including Zernial, four 1960 AS hi numbers and 7 1961 AS hi numbers). The cards range from vg-ex to nr. mt with the early cards being vg-ex to ex-mt and the 1970s cards being more ex-mt to nm. The breakdown is 1 from the 1930s (1939 Play Ball A. Vaughan), 1 from the 1940s (1949 Kiner), 18 from the 1950s, 45 from the 1960s, and 35 from the 1970s. Some of the cards are not overly valuable (1960s and 1970s hof managers, etc.) but there are some nice ones (1957 Mathews, 1960 Banks, 1962 Musial, 1964 Yastrzemski, etc.). The cards should retail in the $1000-1200 range so let’s call it $1,100.

For the last couple months I have been debating whether to sell them to a dealer for say $500 or sell them retail and the time and effort associated with that. So here is what I am going to try:

The opening bid on this lot is $500 and will go to me. Everything bid after that in increments of $20 will be donated to Safe Haven Furever. So if the lot sells for $1,100, $600 would go to the Haven. Shipping will be $10 and the auction will end 8/19 at 9 pm central. Pictures to follow.

Default added bonus

As an added bonus, the winning bidder will also receive graded cards of three outfielders who never quite made it.

Smile 100+ all-stars/hofers

Thanks Brian. Hoping to find a good home for some nice cards and perhaps help a dog or two.

Default Brutus

Thanks again for doing this, Robert. Regardless of the outcome just the thought is appreciated (plus all of the rest of you have already helped with.)

I want to catch up a little. Here is the story and pics Bill (hey Bill) was referring to-

Brutus was in one of Ga's high kill shelters, had become aggressive and shut down especially after his cell-mate had left. Slated to die last Tuesday, we rescued him Monday and went to pick him up on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the shelter people couldn't get him to move out of the corner in his cage; he wouldn't let them leash him and snarled if they came close. Wet food made him get up and move to it but they still couldn't get him. After an hour of trying unsuccessfully, and with the obvious result being put down (killed) , we brought the crate into his cell and with one last try they were able to "lasso him" and lead him into the crate
We carried the crate to my car, I drove to meet a Tennessee rescue who is a trainer, and she sent me these pics 2 hours after getting back home to Seymour, Tenn. I have received a subsequent video of them playing with Brutus --this boy is forever FREE!! The sad part is how many of these dogs don't have a chance because we can't rescue all of them; the good part is that with everyone's help, we are able to rescue lots of them who then get and give so much love to their forever family. thanks to all the net 54'ers who have helped so far!

Default thanks

Thanks everyone. This one didn’t sell, but the hockey lot did raise $120 for the shelter. I will break this lot into smaller parts and try again with part of the proceeds benefiting the shelter.

I have been busy and just missed this thread the last few days, as well as the hockey one, mostly. My apologies. Thanks so much, Robert. I will post up some pictures in this thread in the next day or so, so you and others can see where the money is going. It is freaking awesome. A lot of lives being saved. Thanks again.

Smile thank you

Thank you for providing the forum. I have put two auctions up and 2 for sale posts that partially or totally benefit the Safe Haven. I figure that I will try a few different formats and see what works. I am not a dealer, I collect and tend to accumulate doubles as I often improve on the cards I have. This leads to some stuff lying around that I should get around to selling, but never had the time or inclination given that many of the cards are too valuable to just give away, but not expensive enough make unloading them on ebay a worthwhile pursuit.

Since my day job as an attorney is not going to get me into Heaven, I figure that helping a dog or two might help me with Heaven's veterans committee after I fail to get 5% of the votes during regular balloting. $480 raised so far and I think we can get that up to $1,000 just with "stuff" that is lying around.
