Default N173 King Kelly Portrait How scarce is it?

I am trying to find some info on a N173 King Kelly Portrait---I know it is a scarce card---is it much tougher than the batting poses----any idea on value of a vg-ex type? thanks, Don

The Kelly batting pose is a relatively common one, as N173's go. He was among the players that were most often ordered from Goodwin, and the batting pose is what was sent out. The street clothes portrait is genuinely rare and is among a small number of N173 of which no corresponding N172 pose is known.

Value is subjective, as two collectors could take the item to the max if they both have to have it. Tough one to assign a value.

Wow. 4 is not many. Somebody indeed got a great deal.

I wonder if the pop for this Hastings card of Kelly is comparable. Any thoughts, anyone?

Well, we should find out the current value at the end of the month, there is one up for auction on August 29.

I would guess that 90% of all known N173 poses have 4 or fewer copies so the scarcity of the Kelly in street clothes needs to be considered in that context. It also goes without saying that the demand side of the equation is a lot higher than for most regular player poses. However, Ewing was a better player than Kelly and no one would get too excited about a Ewing N173 pose with only four known copies.
