Default '86 Topps set

I am Topps set collector. Up until the National last weekend, I had 57-85. I found a table (402, I believe) that had a bunch of 80s 90's sets for $5 each. I picked up 87, 88, 89, and 90 for a whopping total of $20. He said that he had '86 but sold it right before I got there.

I keep everything in sheets, but I am just keeping these in their set box - as sheets and binders are more expensive than the cards. Due to a personality disorder/issue, it is driving me crazy that I have a hole in my run.

In the case of a set like this, shipping costs more than the set. So, I guess what I am asking is if anyone near Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Columbus or Cincinnati as I will be there next Wednesday/Thursday - Indy is an option as I can have my mom help me with a pickup - same with MSP as my brother lives there) has an extra '86 set that they bought in anticipation of putting their future kids through college and are ready to part with on the cheap?

I realize that $5 was a really hot deal, so I don't anticipate the price being that low, but I will hold out and wait for a Craigslist ad if it is substantially more expensive than that.

Things that I never thought I would say. "Tiger, meet my sister." and "Does anyone have an '86 set for sale?"

Just realized that I should have posted this in B/S/T. Apologies as I am still rattled that I am asking about an '86 topps set.

Leon, please move if you see fit.

Thanks,
Kevin

There are still massive quantities of 1986 unopened available and not all that expensive. That might be a fun way to complete the set with your boys.

Once upon a time, I bought a box of 1986 Topps to build the set. I busted the box, tried the gum, sorted through the cards and never went any further.

If you decide to build the set yourself, I've got a good jump start that you can have for free just so I can get it out of my house.

PM me if you're interested.

Cheers,

Richard.

Richard, I really appreciate the offer. I think the cost of shipping would exceed the cost of buying the set locally. My goal on this one is minimal time and distraction. Get it and be done to fill a hole before moving onto the next big expensive project.

The local card shop had it for 24.95. My guess is that had would have taken 15-20 for it if I would have pressed. I have the $5 that I got the others for burned into my head and am continuing the search.

Oh sure. Now I hear of someone that needs 1986 Topps baseball cards. I threw out about 3000 last fall. Nice going Kevin.

I know the feeling. I have Topps and Topps Traded Sets from 2013 down to 1968. If I had a hole like that, it would drive me crazy. I keep mine in albums too.

So, I forgot about this thread... Sorry for the lack of response.

Late last week, I found one in an auction. $15.50 in a binder with sheets and free shipping. Somewhere in there, I think they paid me to take the cards....

So as the story goes, I went to put my 87 in a binder this weekend. I open it up and it is 88!!!?!!. I bought it for $5 at National, so it is not a killer - except now I have 2 88s and no 87, so the search begins again...

I now have an extra 88, 89, 90. I have them on Craigslist basically trying to do a $3/15 deal because shipping costs more than the cards - and no one is biting...

I told my son this weekend, that I am going to be the smart one. Everyone is in the process of throwing them out now, so in 30 years, they will be more scarce and suddenly there will be a run on them, I will be the smart guy with 2 sets of each of those years!!!

One can only dream..

Incredible that at the time I bought those cards thinking they would be a good investment.
