No idea this forum is older stuff pre 1942.

On eBay the cheapest pack is listed for 80 dollars.

This wax box is in the next Mile High Auction.

Topps did a very limited run of their baseball cards that were distributed to the troops and bore a special foil logo. At one time, they were quite coveted, but have settled down...still worth more than most anything in that era.

a PSA 8 Chipper Jones sold for $341
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1991-Topps-D...item2a27c093e4

a BGS 9 Chipper sold for $499

Haven't bought a 1991 Topps card since 1991, but I've got think that represents a premium for these Desert Shield/Desert Storm one.

There were the regular, plentiful 1991 Topps baseball cards and a parallel edition made for the troops and issued in packs/boxes-- same cards but with a gold emblem. There is also a non-sport Desert Storm issue which isn't worth much. The edition made for the troops is the limited and valued ones.

I had the entire foil Desert Shield set at one time years and years ago and sold it. I don't remember the selling price but it was a heckuva lot more than the regular Topps set issued that year.
Although the prices have slid down from what they once were, to say they were issued in huge numbers and aren't worth that much is just flat wrong.

Possibly some confusion there. The only Desert STORM cards were the ones Topps did to profit off the war. The baseball cards had a Desert SHIELD stamp. And yes, somewhere around $60-80 per unopened pack.

I wouldn't say that prices have settled down. Earlier this year, the #1 Desert Shield set on the PSA registry sold for $75,000 at auction. The attention from that auction attracted some new collectors to the set.

The set also had renewed interest in 2012 because the premiere card of the set is Chipper Jones RC, and as we all know 2012 was MLB's continous episode of Farewell Chipper. The Chipper in a PSA 9 has moved from a $250 card in 2008 to a $500-$600 card today.
