Default Dick Menchaca "flyer" National Bantam Weight Champ????

Hi all,

Let me start by saying I am no boxing expert... So I have a few questions.

1. I have this flyer pictured below that states "featuring Dick Menchaca", is this a known boxer?

2. What would be the date of this item.

3. Is the item pictured below referred to as a flyer?

4. Anyone collect this guy? Any value in this item?

Notes: The paper is real thin - Nothing on the back - measures 6" x 9"

Thank you,
Shawn

There is a Dick Menchaca who had some professional fights out of Texas in the mid to late 40's.

This looks like an amateur flyer/broadside. If it's the same Dick Menchaca, which it looks like it's a pretty good chance, I would guess it probably dates to before his service in the military, c. late 1930's to 1940 or so.

Not really much value. It's the type of item I might park on a website for 15 or 20 bucks and hope a relative stumbles across it eventually.

Default Worth checking ...

Definitely advertising an amateur card, from the notation that all the fights are three-rounders. Dave is bang-on: $15-$20 tops — and hope that a relative sees it. Always worth checking amateur ephemera for hidden gems, though. I recently picked up a rather nondescript four-page program at a paper show for the princely sum of $5 — a steal when you consider one of the fights listed inside featured future world heavyweight champ Lennox Lewis.

True. One of my big finds a few years ago was a plain looking 1891 Athletic Club tournament program with ticket stub at an antique paper show.

I looked inside the program and one of the last names listed looked familiar, but I figured it was too good to be true. I took the chance and picked it up for 50 bucks.

When I got home and did the research, I found out it was the program and ticket for the 4th and 5th recorded fights of "Barbados" Joe Walcott.

Hey guys, thanks for the info. Very helpful!

The time frame has got to be right.... This flyer came out of a Texas Aggie Scrapbook from the late 20s - early 40s.

Thanks again,
Shawn
