Default Also on the movie theme

Recent opinions for the best movies and the worst of movies were invited here. There are many movies with sad endings but which ones do you consider the entire story had such sympathetic characters and situations making it the most distressing or saddest movie?

A few old movies come to mind:

Schindler's List
The Grapes of Wrath
To Kill a Mockingbird
A Streetcar Named Desire
La Strada

If you've never seen The Mist it has one of the most shocking endings I can think of.

Not a good movie, but an action movie called "wild geese"

A bunch of British ex-military guys is gotten back together as mercenaries for.....Something. I forget what. Most of the movie is introducing the individuals as they get convinced to take on the fight.
After nearly the entire movie they go to where they're going get in a fight and are wiped out in maybe 5 minutes. All dead, movie over.

Agreed. Shocking and depressing. Have not been able to watch it since. And that ending is not consistent with the ending of the book/short story by King either.

Are you referring to the 2017 version or the 2007 one?

There has been no ending to the 2017 TV series version, which bears only a slight resemblance to the original book. He is referring to the movie from 2007

I've got 'The Mist' (2007 version) headed my way via Netflix snail-mail, but couldn't wait...Wikipedia doesn't have very efficient spoiler alerts.

I still think I'll enjoy it though- after all, how often do you get to see Mickey Mantle in a horror movie?

King has baseball cards in other books. Sandy Koufax stars in one, which was also made into a movie...for TV. Then there is a whole book about The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. King is a Red Sox fanatic fan. Also there is a baseball card of William Blakely that comes with his book Blockade Billy

Now, I believe I recall 'Needful Things' featuring a 1956 Mantle card.

Agreed. Directed by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile)
