I just added a few more "Big Heads" to my collection (this is the other set I am sort of going for) and am somewhat intrigued at how they are so ugly and elementary, they are rather cool (to me at least).

Lovable or laughable, they had set the standard for many strips to come.

My pathetic example

Much to my surprise, in a depraved sort of way I find myself becoming attracted to these cards.

i think i just found a set even uglier than the 1943 MP&Co set.

No offense, though.

Now it makes sense why I'm attracted to the Big Heads -- it was me who started that MP&Co. thread!

There is an analogous boxing set (W529-7) with the same muted tones, printed names, etc., but it doesn't have disproportionate heads on the fighters.

I was able to complete the set minus one. They are the cadillac of strip cards. Super cool and have interesting child like images. Super rare to come by in VG-EX condition. Also Cobb and Ruth are seldomly seen. Good luck with the set. I showed these before, but here are a few of mine that I sold earlier this year...

W529-7, 8/10, missing Beckett & Leonard.

The pastel colors on the type 7s are just like the big heads.

How much do W-Unc Big Heads usually go for? I'm finding myself sucked in by their sheer primitiveness.

Anthony,

A VG/Ex Ruth sold for $11,750 in REA's 2007 auction, so you can get an idea of what they can bring. They are the most valuable of the cartoon strip cards if not all strip cards.

In the same auction, a group of 16 different (no Ruth or Cobb) sold for $5,875, for an average price of $367 ea.

Believe it or not, this card is one of my favorites. Just take a look at my avatar. I really like that little sketch that someone added years ago.
