Looks like this one will require reading the fine print.

I was the closest on Saier I think.

The other two tied and were therefore disqualified.

I cannot make this print any finer.

Leon, if you had been smart enough to make the prize money an even number then they could have just split the pot. Now you're gonna have a huge fight over that odd $.01.

Considering that the "41 Goudey Muncrief" and "1939 Cincinnati Reds Team Thompson" they would tie for the most at $39.99. This means anyone that guessed closest while guessing one of these two would be the winner (basically anyone that guessed Saeir couldn't win).

That would make this the winner as out of all the Muncrief and Thompson guesses this was the closest to $39.99

I think it's an easy desicion. Since they were both the highest, choose the closest bid to either one. It's technically the closest bid to the highest priced card. In the future I would adopt this policy no matter what is decided here.

For this type of contest, guess the closest to the highest priced card, it has always been exactly what has been stated. Sometimes there are other contests but the ones with the closest to the highest ending card seem self explanatory to me. The only issue would be if someone guessed the same winning bid with the same time stamp. If that ever happens then both will be awarded the prize. I thought this was easy to grasp but maybe not..

"The winner will be the member who guesses the closest to the highest ending priced card of the 3 auctions ending below."

Even then the one that posts first in the thread should be considered the earlier bid.

Leon, this time two cards were tied for the highest. This is why I stated that anyone that guessed either of those cards should be considered with the one closest to that tied amount of 39.99 should be the winner (in this case Fballguy with a guess of Muncrief $39.27).

Is this what you are going to do in this case? Or is there no prize because there isn't a single card with the highest price?

In my way of thinking it would be the closest guess to either of those 2 cards that were highest. Makes sense to me. So yes, I believe you are correct with Fballguy winning. Always open to fun debate.... if I get to show a type card (for me as I wouldn't do the set) with the tin it allegedly came in. And considering the provenance it's probably true!!@

Default Fun debate!

Leon,
Since this was the first time this situation arose, I feel the closest guess to both the Thompson and Muncrief cards should be declared winners.
" The winner will be the member who guesses closest to the highest ending priced card of the 3 auctions ending below." Post #23 was closest to the Muncrief card and Post #27 was closest to the Thompson card. Both cards were the highest ending price in the contest.
The tie breaker is ambiguous. I believe it was meant to decide who was the winner if two or more posts correctly guessed the same price for the same item. I doubt if anyone thought that two different cards could both end up being the highest priced cards in the auction.
Just my fifty seven dollars and seventy seven cents worth of "FUN DEBATE"
Other opinions? Sam Majors
P.S. I think that if Post #27 is also declared a winner, and I think I can speak for him, he should and would refuse to accept any winnings as this is just a "FUN DEBATE"

All fair and fun points, Sam. The only thing is that the intent of the game is to find "the winner" so in that line of thinking, the ambiguity was less important than declaring "the" winner (a singular winner).
