Default New 1908 "Take Me Out To The Ball Game" USPS stamps!

I saw these at the post office and had to buy them. They represent the 100 year anniversary of the song, which was written in the summer of 1908 by a Jack Norworth.

bad design, IMO...too much going on...would have been better to show a player in 1908 uniform, versus late 1800's..."A" for effort, tho.

This is why there is chocolate and vanilla. I think this design is absolutely beautiful and wouldn't change a thing......

Why is there a line through the 42?

<Why is there a line through the 42?

Because they're ashamed of the price of stamps today?

is a "bar sinister" commonly being a sign prohibiting some action. Are they saying that this is not a 42 cent stamp? Weird.

But I too like the stamp and bought 10 sheets just yesterday.

There is a line though the 42 so you can't counterfeit it I believe (not a legal stamp); everything the post office releases or makes with a stamp design (unless it's a real stamp) has a line through the value of the stamp.

I bought some earlier this week when I was shipping cards..."you sell all these expensive baseball cards you have to buy the stamp!"

edited - spelling

The "actual" stamps do NOT have the bar sinister.

Bar sinister...makes it sound like you have to buy them behind the building at night with a briefcase of money.

the bar is likely to discourage counterfeiting?

With all the riff-raff of today's game, this stamp can be nothing but good.

Maybe even one day...

It's a trade card for National League Fine Cut Tobacco. It's always been one of my favorite trade cards.
