Default c.1940's Cardinals Figural Ashtray

Picked this up yesturday. I am not a big fan of chalkware but always liked these unique Cardinal figural pieces. The yellow color is odd and I am not really sure if this could even be attributed to the St. Louis team. The seller recently sold another, but with a red cardinal in a batting stance and squared base.

Default Just won this piece...

circa 1930's Philadelphia Athletics Baseball Jacket Elephant mascot patch. High quality red, blue and grey embroidered 7" patch was removed from a professional A's baseball jacket. Included with this very rare patch is an original dated 1940 wire photo of Connie Mack holding up an A's jacket with this same patch on it.

Default Very Rare Roberto Clemente Sneakers

In the early 1970s, Roberto Clemente endorsed this brand of Super Pro sneakers, which were only sold at stores in Puerto Rico. This pair of size 8 sneakers comes unworn, with the original tags still attached.

I've been after this Cubs pinback for a while.

While this piece has nothing to do with the Chicago Cubs, it fits with my Cub and team figural pieces and is quite old.

I have never seen another example of these bookends and was thrilled to add them to my collection.

Default Original Signed Virgil Ross "Bat" Boy Sketch from "Baseball Bugs"

Of the very many characters Ross animated, he is most closely associated with Bugs Bunny, but also did a great deal of work involving Daffy Duck, Yosemite Sam, Tweety, and many others, including Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote.

Virgil Ross received the highest awards available in his profession: the Motion Picture Screen Cartoonists Golden Award (1984) and the Winsor McCay Award (1988). Four of the cartoons he had animated won Oscars.

Nice lineup card from the Padres. 1984 was the year after I moved to San Diego and became a Padre fan so that brings back some great memories. 8/31 was a doubleheader against the mets...they split.

Thanks!! I visited San Diego 2 yrs ago in the summer and absolutely loved it. As a Yankee fan seeing Ed Whitson's name on the lineup card made me cringe a little.

Well, I'm also a big Yankee fan so I understand about Whitson. Not sure why the Boss wanted him so bad. He was a pretty good journeyman pitcher but you just knew he would get lit-up in the American League

A big thank you to our own Mark S. (Perezfan) for making these pieces available for my collection.

The first is an 8 1/2" figural trophy. I've never seen another example of this piece and am thrilled with it.

The second is a 16" trophy cup with a terrific figural of equipment on the face. The handles have intricate scroll work that gives this piece an ellegent look I love.

Really nice additions Mike! The figural batter has a really great look. Very classic and timeless design.
I picked these two up in last months Hunt online auction. I was psyched at the price I got the trophy for and I'm a total sucker for these big professional team photos. This one shows the 1928 Rochester Red Wings and measures approx 14" x 20".

I thought I was going to sit December out, and I was not going to start the 61 Yankees until mid next year, but I saw that 3 of the guys were signing at the MAB-Celebrity show in New Jersey so I sent in my 61 yearbook to be signed. Berra and Kubek will be signing next month and then I hope to get anywhere from 4 to 8 additional ones at the J.Paul show in May. Hopefully Whitey Ford will be around sometime in between.

T'was an extremely sad and frustrating month for me, thanks to UPS (sure wish I could say that I was surprised). Two killer pieces arrived badly broken and with irreparable damage... see pics

It's looking like I am also getting stiffed on another item, thanks to a deadbeat Seller on ebay.

So I guess my best "pickups" for December will be the PayPal refund and UPS compensation checks (assuming PayPal and UPS make good on them). It may be a good New Years Resolution to take a hiatus from the hobby for a while, as that's the message I'm getting from this...

I had my eye on this one when Legendary's last auction opened.

Was glad to have ended up on the winning side when it was all over.

Sadly, the caption has been torn and partially removed from the reverse.

From what I can tell though, it appears to be of Ruth in Fenway in either '27 or '28.

Default Trip down memory lane-"The Template"

I went back in time and looked at old threads Jimmy started and thought it would be fun to keep some of them alive. Jimmy started these threads way back in the day. I will share a December pickup that Jimmy appreciated and one of the last things we talked about this last Saturday. He then shared his last pickup and off we went on our support for one another! I attached the Gehrig and a link to his HOLY GRAIL that sadly he didn't get in time. incredible December PICKUP Jimmy!

Jimmy:

"Dude! Were you and I the only people that had the vision on the Gehrig photo??! What a steal and once matted, it will still be a full size 6x8!!!
I hit another on out on the Beatles side of the scoreboard.....

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Beatles-ULT...vip=true&rt=nc

If anyone else wants to chose their past fav post Jimmy started, it sure would be a great trubute. If not.. i will continue to do it..

Hahaha.... Kind of funny to read that after 8 YEARS have passed. That was pretty painful at the time. But I'm indeed over it, and eventually replaced both of those pieces with good examples (although it definitely took some work).

All good.... Now let's get back to Jimmy! I'm not very handy with the search function here, but will try to resurrect one of his great original threads.

Default Broken Trophies

Mark -
You have had some bad luck.
The packaging of those two trophies must have been terrible.
The sellers should be blamed much more than UPS.
Use of cardboard, lots of bubble wrap and peanuts are easy to work with and have protected many items I have shipped without any trouble.
Your experiences, in theory, could be the result of broker before shipment.
Not accusing anyone - just a thought.

I think you are probably right, Jerry. Would not surprise me at all... especially in the case of the Spalding Pitcher.

It was very well wrapped and protected. Never understood how that one could break so badly, as the box was not dented, and the trophy had at least 3” of bubble padding all the way around (supplemented by plentiful peanut pack).

Oh well... onward and upwards.

Nice figural piece, Jim...

I can only infer that the fellow you pictured arrived broken off from his original base? I returned that Spalding long ago, but your piece is really begging to be re-attached to a vintage base. I bet someone here might have one!

I picked up this Babe Ruth signed to fellow HOF’re Eddie Collins photo by Charles Conlon used for his 1929 star candy card.

Very nice Ben! Nothing as good as that but I did pickup this 1950 RPPC of Roy Campanella used for his 1951 Bowman card with his writing on the back too.

Really like that. So it is autographed? I have a type 1 somewhere around here.

Thanks Ben and Jeff. No auto Ben, just his writing on the back. Just grabbed this photo... Anytime you get a horse and baseball in the same photo you've got to pick it up as far as I'm concerned!
