Hof book many signatures
Not just picked up in April, but I thought worth showing. Has numerous additional signatures
There are autographs inside of Red Barber, Jack Buck as broadcasters, and, signed on their plaques: Hubbell, Dickey, Terry, Lyons, Cronin, Greenberg, Feller, Roush, Appling, Grimes, Lloyd Waner, Medwick, Coveleski, Hoyt, Musial, Boudreau, Haines, Hooper, Marquard, Berra, Lefty Gomez, Wynn, Buck Leonard, Irvin, Spahn, George Kelly,…and, of course, Mrs. Babe Ruth and Mrs. Lou Gehrig. There's also a Campanella but not sure about it...a relative possibly or auto pen (?) |

In 20 years most of the living HOF members able to sign in a similar context will be from the scribble generations and you won't be able to read any of them. |

So true. The autographs I’ve gotten in the past few years are totally unrecognizable; if they were not signed on a baseball or football card or picture, one would have no idea who the player was. The problem is that the card or sporting equipment companies send a player a few hundred cards to sign for a fee and the players rush through signing them as fast as they can. The art of autograph collecting has changed so much. I started to build my collection years and years ago before players charged to sign.

If that was the problem then there would be examples which were readable from situations where they are not in a hurry, and generally speaking there are not. The problem is a lack of respect for the collector / fan. I am aware of a rock star who many have heard of who signs legal documents in an unrecognizable scribble, but who signs autographs carefully and neatly in a way that is completely 100% always readable. Of course he seldom signs autographs, but when he does, it is a piece of art similar to the vast majority of autographs signed pre-1980 and all autographs pre-1950. |

Can't argue with your point about lack of respect. Solid evaluation. Reminds me of a time years ago at Shea Stadium after a Dodgers-Mets game whenas a young teen, I approached Junior Gilliam in the parking lot asking for an autograph and his response was "Get the F**k out of here." Now...that's lack of respect.

^^^ many states don’t even teach cursive writing anymore.
(mine may suck, but at least I know how to do it!)
