I'm probably about half way through - I have this guy in the house

so that's one big ticket item taken care of. I have two Tosi so I may just get one graded

And, it seems odd to me, I'm having trouble with a nice graded Kostka.

Kostka and Tosi were the lowest POP cards in the set the last I checked but that was a few years ago now.

I wanted to post a follow up to my last pick-ups, those three 1952 Bowman Large cards I bought from Deans Cards. Every set collectors "nightmare", when I went to put these cards away I discovered #108 was already in there! I must have forgotten to cross it off my list! And when I looked at completed posts here on Net54, I listed the same card as a pick-up on March 13th. Normally I would just live with my mistake, put the extra card in my doubles box, and swear I would never do that again! But I spent $200 on this card!

I've never bought very much from Deans cards, but according to their website they offer 100% Money Back Guarantee. I wasn't going to lie to them, so I called them and told the truth, that I made a mistake and I did not need the card. I was told no problem return the card and we will refund your money.

I mailed the card Wednesday (just two days ago), tracking shows arrival today Friday, and now at 5PM I have $200 in my PayPal account.

Why they list some of their card for ridiculous prices I do not know. But their customer service is outstanding.

Larry

I just picked up football cards on a whim. I'm a baseball guy but I felt I got a great deal and it's sparked my interest.

Please forgive the photos.

Hello,

Picked up this large (15+ inches in length) original photograph of Wilbur Francis "Pete" Henry, inaugural member of the College Football Hall of Fame AND Pro Football Hall of Fame. The frame looks to be from 1920s. I removed the backing to see if it was signed by Henry on the reverse (it isn't).

This photo isn't really in my wheelhouse. I collect pre-1900 Ivy League Football photographs. Send me a PM if this piece fits into your collection. I'm always game for swapping.

Cheers

Mark

Default 1948 Leaf Sammy Baugh

I don't normally buy cards in raw form due to the unknown but I took a chance on this Baugh. I already have a full run from his playing days but this Leaf was so odd I had to get it. I sent it off to SGC but wasn't too thrilled with the grade. I was happy that it was an authentic card but with the card in hand, it was in great shape with great centering and decent corners. Besides its off registration, there were no creases and the back was bold. So I'm not sure why it was a 20 but I'm happy for it to be encased by SGC.

Looks like you did pretty well to me, but of course any show with Staubach is a good one to me. The '72s are nice as well.

In keeping with a recent tendency to favor oddball issues over more traditional rookie cards.

Good news at the mailbox today, as the last needed card for my 1952 Bowman Large football set arrived!
#29 Hugh McElhenny RC "books" for $250 in NM condition. This eBay listing was BIN $29.95 or best offer. So I offered $24 and the seller accepted. Then I bought nine other '52 Large cards to upgrade or restock my doubles box, and the seller shipped all my stuff for three bucks!
Pro and College HOF member, Hugh is related to the Mcllhenny family from Louisiana, the makers of Tabasco Sauce.

I DID IT!

Picked up these RCs of Pats greats from N54 member NewEnglandbaseballist:

More on the Nance card in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, I'm dying to add a beater copy of Buoniconti's 63 Fleer RC. Anybody got one?

Congratulations, that is a great accomplishment. I've just started this project and it seems like it's going to take me awhile, those sp's are going to be brutal for me I think. But that's what makes it fun, I've really enjoyed your posts of your pick ups and I think your posts may have been an inspiration to me to start on the set myself. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Mike

Just picked up a complete 1962 Topps set that the seller advertised as PSA 2 - PSA 4 condition. Cards came in this morning and man am I in love with this set! Not a bad pickup for $300.

Very excited to add these:

1967 Caprolan Nylon premiums. Gino had an endorsement deal with them and was one of the 10 players in the set. The premiums were distributed in a nylon sleeve with a glossy 8x10 b&w photo and a separate, larger sheet of paper with a bio of the player. The bio sheet is huge, so I cropped it a lot so that hopefully you can read the text. Astute observers will notice this is the same photo used on his rookie card.

So how rare is this? My go-to guy to purchase and learn about oddball issues is Mike Mosier at Columbia City Collectibles. He says that in the past 30 years he's only seen 2 Caprolan Gino photos and the other one was trimmed, ripped and water stained and came without the separate bio.

In case you're curious what the sleeve looked like, here is the photo from the listing:

More stuff....

I've taken on a couple of Red Sox team sets, but never a Patriots one. I've had the '68 Cappelletti for a long time, so when I stumbled upon a great bargain on the 68 Jim Nance RC in the BST a couple weeks ago and looked and saw the team checklist is only 8 cards for that set, I decided to "tackle" it.

One complaint I have is that the set doesn't include Houston Antwine. The D-lineman was voted to the first team AFL all-time team and he's included in 1964, 65, 66, 67 and 69 and 70 Topps, just not 68. Despite his omission though, the team set includes 2 AFL MVPs (Cappelletti & Nance) and a HOFer (Nick Buoniconti), so I'm excited about it. Here are 2 additions that arrived this past weekend. I love the rough cut on the Graham.

Here are the ones I previously added:

1952 Bowman Small #16 Frank Gifford RC arrived yesterday via eBay purchase. Leaves me needing just one more card to complete my set (#48 George Halas RC). I looked for both of these cards at the National, and I saw plenty of them. But they were all priced above what I could get the card on eBay.
This card was a BIN $79 with free shipping. Bought it during a 10% eBay bucks promotion, so it cost $71.10 or 21.8% NM "book" price of $325. The card WAS in an SGC holder SGC40 VG 3 until I cracked it out so it would fit in the cardboard box lol.

I picked this up a couple weeks ago but I'm way behind on my scanning. This is another monster card, in case you don't collect football and didn't know. HOF RC and also a SP. Completes My Pats HOF RC registry for now: https://www.psacard.com/PSASetRegist...timeset/214635

Picked up this Hollywood press photo where Jim Thorpe visits the set of a movie featuring the Four Horsemen of Notre Dame

What the seller didn't recognize is that it is signed on the back by the Four Horsemen

I finished up '66 Topps and have commenced operations on a '65 Philadelphia set. The first one from that set arrived today. I have several more on the way for next week! I need to get those '66s in some uniform CardSaver Is asap. Fun, fun!

My favorite Warfield card, Robert! What a way to start you set.

Congrats on your Topps 66 set. Looking good.
