Default 1962 Topps Rookie Parade observation

I am closing in on a 1962 Topps set clicking off the troublesome high numbers a couple at a time. The Rookie Parades are a special point of pain, but I noticed something. I probably see one 595 for every other rookie parade I see. I didn't see where any Rookie Parade is double printed...just something that's happening to me or do others have a similar experience?

It's funny, I only have one Rookie Parade double. Want to guess what number it is? Yup, 595.

For what it's worth, #595 and all the others were tough for me in that very frustrating subset. The Rookie Parade cards include Uecker and Bouton but, really, it's a pretty undistinguished crop of rookies without a single Hall of Famer in the bunch. And yet, when I put my 1962 set together, it was very difficult to find those cards at reasonable prices.

It isn't a very good crop of rookies...and probably we should be thankful given the prices anyway. If you had someone like a Brock or Perry in the rookie parades, it might be a $200+ card. I think you could probably filed a middle of the pack major league team with the players on the team...with a backbone of Pepitone, Rolins, Hickman, Menke and a reasonably solid staff lead by McDowell and Bouton along with two good bullpen arms.

Hi Todd,

I have had the same experience, #595 seems to show up quite a bit more and realized prices are generally lower than the others in the subset.

might as well post a scan while I'm at it.

It has always been my opinion that the 1962 Rookie Parade cards were tougher than the other high numbers from 1962 because team collectors for up to five different teams collected a specific Rookie Parade card to complete their respective team set. With the 595 card being one with just four players (instead of 5) representing only three unique teams, no major stars, and with the players from primarily smaller markets (including TWO A's players), there is less demand for this Rookie Parade card.

While the 596 card has only two unique teams represented, the two Yankee players depicted on that card make it much more desirable than the 595 card with two lesser known A's players.

The 597 card is similar tot he 595 card in many aspects, but the demand for this card is greater likely due to the markets/teams represented.
