shoo,

and before i start, david rudd's (hankron) website is the place to become educated on this http://www.cycleback.com"

in a nutshell - a&gs were printed via a stone litho process. if you put a real card under magnification, you'll see an irregular (in size, shape and distance between) dot pattern. today this printing technique is too costly and troublesome to reproduce, its much more easily done with color copiers, scans, photos from which a printing plate can be produced, etc etc, a multitude of ways. when looking at a fake under magnification, you'll see a dot patern that is regular (they'll be equidistant, be the same size and be round in shape, almost like looking at your tv screen close up, the real card's dots look like little blobs or amoebas with no real visible pattern) hope this helps, but i'd recommend the link sited above, keith

How do I determin the value of an Allen&Ginter poster I have.

The poster is an original, with gold trim and various famous baseball players, boxers, rowers and sharp shooters, including Annie Oakly?

I am hinking of putting the poster up for auction and would like to know the range of value before turning it over to an auction house.

Please advise.

Regards,
Bill

Posters like that in strong condition are worth tens of thousands of dollars. I could be off, but I recall one of the baseball posters selling for around $30,000 in a past auction. Even the non-sport A & G posters are worth good money.

You can tell the fake ones because they came from someone's dead grandfather who knows nothing about cards excepts grading, smr, psa, values, catalog designations, and variations.

I have purchased the advertising posters for both Kinney sets dealing with horse racing. N233 & N234, I think. They were in nice shape, framed and cost about $3,000 each.
