Default 1952 Topps Mantles on eBay

Posted By: Dave Hornish

I dunno but the guy looks like he runs Ebay lotteries. 1/2 of all 52T Mantles have that "ragged look" to the stars/text box but all 4 examples you show above are like that. I would stay far, far away....Here's on eof his lotteries:

The guy had 755 items listed when I just looked. If you sort descending by highest price, he has 3 expensive items listed. The two Mantles and a fancy hockey card. On the rest of the 752 cards the highest priced BIN is 20 cents and most of them are 1 cent BIN's. My guess is the Mantles and hockey card are listed to draw people into the BIN thing he's doing. An auction may run and then get cancelled and relisted, or a big card is listed with a BIN not likley to get hit to draw people into viewing his other BIN things. He may very well have access to the card but somebody would have to hit the BIN to find out. One cent BIN listings are an unusual way of conducting business. So if you do the BIN or do a deal off-line make sure you have complete control over the safety of your money.

Not sure I understand you question. Are the cards legit or the auctions?

I think the cards are legit, or at least i hope they are, as for the auctions who knows.

I was wondering if the auctions looked legitimate, or rather like a scam of some sort, such as is often seen on eBay with that card, using pilfered scans. As Red pointed out, the Mantle cards do look out of place among the other stuff the seller has.

The PSA 6 sold with a best offer of $20,000.

The PSA 5 is currently at $13,500 with just over 4 days to go.

Scam

Just read the feedback and look at the other items he sells. Plus he is in Canada and its not as easy to cover yourself when you buy from Canada.
